Jakarta, 13 February, 2026 — The Ministry of Creative Economy/Creative Economy Agency (Ekraf), through the Deputy for Strategic Development of the Creative Economy, received a delegation from the Government of Thailand’s Office of the Public Sector Development Commission. The meeting, held at the Gedung Film Pesona Indonesia, Jakarta, resulted in both parties agreeing on the renewal of the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on cooperation in the Creative Industry between Indonesia and Thailand, which was signed in 2019 and expired in 2025, to ensure its relevance with current industry developments.

The Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between Indonesia and Thailand on Cooperation in the Creative Industry, signed in 2019, serves as an initial foundation for strengthening the creative ecosystem in Southeast Asia through various subsectors, as well as policy exchange, human resource capacity development, and the utilization of digital technology. As the global creative industry continues to evolve, both countries consider it necessary to renew and strengthen the implementation of this cooperation to better adapt to current needs and collaboration opportunities.

Director of Strategic Studies and Management Agus Syarip Hidayat emphasized that Thailand is one of Indonesia’s strategic partners in the development of the creative economy. Referring to BKPM data processed by the Data and Information Center of the Ministry of Creative Economy, the trade value of the creative economy sector to Thailand reached USD 1.54 billion from January to November 2025, with leading sectors including culinary, publishing, crafts, and fashion.

“Thailand is one of the main export destinations for Indonesia’s creative economy products. This reflects the significant potential for cooperation between the two countries. We see this momentum as an opportunity to renew and recalibrate our collaboration to create a stronger partnership, while also strengthening ties between our countries and societies,” said Agus on Friday (February 13).

Both countries also discussed several concrete collaboration opportunities, including Indonesia’s participation in Grand Halal Bangkok as a platform to strengthen halal creative products, the development of co-production cooperation through the Thai–Indonesian Film Festival, and collaboration in the gaming industry through gamescom asia x Thailand Game Show to expand market access and investment in the digital sector.

In addition, Indonesia reaffirmed its position in the global creative economy, which is rooted in diverse cultural richness, while also encouraging the development of regional creative economy strengths as a source of innovation and economic value creation.

“Indonesia’s creative economy is anchored in cultural richness and regional potential. We promote the strengthening of the creative ecosystem through a hexahelix collaboration approach involving the government, academia, businesses, communities, media, and financing institutions. Through this model, we aim to position the creative economy as a new engine of growth that originates from the regions and delivers national impact,” Agus explained.

Indonesia also invited Thailand to participate in the World Conference on Creative Economy (WCCE), which will be hosted by Indonesia this year as a global forum to promote the creative economy as a driver of sustainable development.

“The creative economy is an important sector for our economic growth. To achieve a stronger strategic partnership, cooperation between Thailand and Indonesia needs to be renewed and reactivated in line with current industry developments. We hope to accelerate the implementation of cooperation and expand collaboration so that both countries can become global players in the creative economy,” said Hatchaihanok.

The meeting was also attended by representatives from the Office of the Public Sector Development Commission of the Kingdom of Thailand, who conducted a study visit to learn about Indonesia’s creative economy development strategies from the perspectives of strategic planning and soft power diplomacy. The Thai delegation also emphasized the importance of enhancing concrete cooperation, including investment exchange, the development of digital content and gaming industries, and participation in both countries’ strategic agendas to strengthen the positions of Indonesia and Thailand as global players in the creative economy.
