Jakarta, October 3, 2026 – Deputy Minister of Creative Economy/Deputy Head of the Creative Economy Agency (Ekraf), Irene Umar, officially opened the 10th anniversary of Indonesia Comic Con (ICC) at the Jakarta International Expo (JIExpo). This event, which consistently revitalizes the pop culture ecosystem, has become one of the strategic pillars of national creative economy growth.
Deputy Minister of Creative Economy/Deputy Head of the Creative Economy Agency (Ekraf), Irene Umar, delivers remarks at Indonesia Comic Con (ICC) at the Jakarta International Expo (JIExpo), Jakarta, Saturday (3/10/2026).
“Through events like this, we hope that local talents, from comic artists, illustrators, content creators, to cosplayers, can connect with a broader market. The Ministry of Creative Economy is here to foster every passion that holds economic value, and we can see the economic impact through events like this,” Irene said in her opening remarks on Saturday (October 3).
Through synergy between the Ministry of Creative Economy, industry players, and communities, the ICC 2026 is expected to continue creating jobs in the creative sector, expand the commercialization of local intellectual property (IP), and strengthen Indonesia’s position in the global creative industry supply chain. This initiative is a concrete follow-up to the strategic collaboration that began with the first meeting on October 3, 2025, aimed at highlighting the potential of Indonesian creators and local IP.
Taking place on October 3–4, 2026, ICC 2026 will celebrate the development of creative economy subsectors such as comics, toys, film, games, music, cosplay, and illustration through exhibitions, talk shows, and artist showcases. Now in its 10th edition since its debut in 2015, ICC will feature the “Raya Championship of Cosplay,” kicking off with a parade of 20 cosplayers and offering 100 free cosplay entries.
“This event is not merely a platform for young people to express their passion, but also serves as a ‘new engine of growth’ that drives the economy through the various creative potentials on display. We hope that our cosplayer friends will not only come together to channel their positive passion. It is time for Indonesia to not only be on the national stage but also to be propelled onto the international stage,” Deputy Minister of Creative Economy, Irene, said.

To expand its reach to the global level, ICC 2026 is collaborating with the Hong Kong Economic and Trade Office (HKETO) to facilitate cross-border creator exchanges. Additionally, ICC continues to foster the development of local intellectual property (IP), including the superhero character “Kapten Sultan,” which is open to licensing partnerships and cross-industry collaborations.
Andita Puteri Tirtawisata, Director of Panorama Media, emphasized that the active involvement of local creators is evidence of the strengthening national pop culture ecosystem. She also cited ICC as a platform for enhancing and developing local IP.
“ICC’s presence today is thanks to the extraordinary support from all of you. This year, we are proud to collaborate with the Ministry of Creative Economy, the Regional Office of Creative Economy and Tourism, as well as local and international creative industry players. The breadth of this collaboration proves that Indonesia’s pop culture and creative industries continue to grow rapidly. May our industry become even more advanced, stronger, and recognized worldwide,” Andita Puteri Tirtawisata expressed.
The ICC’s commitment to nurturing world-class talent is also realized through the Indonesia Cosplay Grand Prix. After going through a series of qualifying rounds in five regions, Yogyakarta, Bali, Palembang, Bandar Lampung, and Malang, the winner of this national competition will represent Indonesia at the World Cosplay Summit in Nagoya, Japan.
