Creative Economy Minister Strengthens National IP Development through Seni Merayu Tuhan Film

Jakarta, August 10, 2026 – The Ministry of Creative Economy/Creative Economy Agency is exploring strategic collaboration with Wahana Kreator to strengthen the development of national intellectual property (IP) through the film industry. The meeting aimed to strengthen the entire film industry value chain, from story and talent development, production, distribution, and promotion to the sustainable utilization of IP.

Minister of Creative Economy/Head of the Creative Economy Agency, Teuku Riefky Harsya, said the film industry plays an important role in developing and commercializing national intellectual property. This approach is expected to enable Indonesian creative works to generate economic value while reaching a wider audience.

“The Ministry of Creative Economy encourages Indonesian creative works not to stop merely as works of art, but to be developed into IP with economic value, expand markets, and create opportunities for cross-subsector collaboration,” said the Minister at the Ministry of Creative Economy Office in Jakarta on Monday (August 10).

Wahana Kreator is a research and development-based company established in 2010, focusing on story development, screenwriting, literature, filmmaking, creator education, and content production through its three main units: Wahana Penulis, Wahana Edukasi, and Wahana Dimensi.

One of Wahana Kreator’s latest works is the film Seni Merayu Tuhan, adapted from a book by Habib Husein Jafar Al Hadar. The project serves as an example of IP development through the adaptation of a literary work into film, while also creating opportunities to increase economic value, expand audiences, and diversify the utilization of creative content.

The film Seni Merayu Tuhan tells the story of Hikmah, a young man who seeks to rediscover the meaning of life and a way to seek God's approval after experiencing a life-changing event. Directed by Cesa David Luckmansyah and starring Ari Irham, Teuku Ryzki, Lutesha, and Rieke Diah Pitaloka, the film is scheduled to be released in cinemas on August 13, 2026.

Producer of Seni Merayu Tuhan, Sigit Pratama, said the film received positive responses following its public screening. Wahana Kreator developed the film as an IP adaptation from the original book. Sigit noted that collaboration across Indonesia’s creative sectors played an important role in the film’s production and generated a multiplier effect.

Seni Merayu Tuhan is one example of adapting a work from one medium to another, where a book was ultimately developed into a screenplay and then into a film. In my view, the ecosystem is supportive because when we have a good story and a strong ecosystem, everything needs to be brought together through synergy,” he said.

In terms of talent development, the film is also connected to the SCENE program under the Directorate of Television and Radio through the involvement of Salman Aristo and Rino Sarjono as writers and mentors for the program.
