According to Irene, the international cultural and spiritual festival serves as a symbol of unity that brings together people from diverse backgrounds while generating positive economic impacts for local communities.

“Borobudur Peace & Prosperity Festival is something truly beautiful because it demonstrates the unity of the world. There are so many international delegates present. This is not only a Vesak commemoration but also a festival for the surrounding communities. Here, people from different ethnicities, races, and religions—whether they celebrate Vesak as part of their faith or not—come together to advance the economy and foster togetherness under one word: love,” said Irene.

BPPF 2026 was held at several locations throughout the Borobudur area, including Aksobhya Park. The festival featured a variety of activities, including prayers for world peace, meditation sessions, the International Nyingma Monlam Chenmo Buddhist ritual, cultural performances, and a lantern release against the backdrop of Borobudur Temple.

The presence of delegates from various countries demonstrated that Borobudur serves not only as a world heritage destination but also as a meeting point for cross-cultural exchanges that strengthen the values of tolerance, peace, and international collaboration.

“The message is simple: humanity, peace, and care for our planet. Through these values, we hope to help realize world peace. We are all representatives of what Indonesians call candles. We gather here together and become a lighthouse,” said the Deputy Minister.

In addition to attending the festival, Irene also visited Taman Baca Melek Huruf in Candirejo Village, Magelang, Central Java. Established in 2023, this community-based literacy space combines a reading garden, coffee shop, guest lodge, and knowledge-sharing venue within a serene natural setting.

Selain menghadiri festival, Irene juga mengunjungi Taman Baca Melek Huruf di Desa Candirejo, Magelang, Jawa Tengah.
