Kemenekraf and BRIN Strengthen Research and Innovation Synergy to Reinforce the Creative Economy Ecosystem

Jakarta, 28 July 2026 – The Ministry of Creative Economy / Creative Economy Agency (Ekraf) and the National Research and Innovation Agency (BRIN) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) as a strategic step to strengthen research and innovation collaboration in support of the development of the national creative economy. This collaboration forms part of the implementation of the 2026–2045 Creative Economy Masterplan (Rindekraf) through the strengthening of policies based on data, research, and scientific studies.

Minister of Creative Economy / Head of the Creative Economy Agency, Teuku Riefky Harsya, said the cooperation represents a joint commitment to building a stronger creative economy ecosystem through an evidence-based policy approach. Accordingly, every program implemented is expected to address the needs of creative economy actors while delivering tangible impacts.

“In this regard, BRIN has become a strategic partner in the preparation of creative economy studies in 2026. Through the signing of this MoU, we welcome stronger collaboration in implementing the 2026–2045 Creative Economy Masterplan through policies based on data, research, and scientific studies,” said the Minister of Creative Economy at the BRIN Office, Jakarta, Tuesday (28/7).

Through the memorandum of understanding, the Ministry of Creative Economy and BRIN will carry out four main action plans, namely research development strategies, funding and financing facilitation, intellectual property facilitation strategies, and the protection of creative outputs. These four areas will be implemented through the development of creative economy studies and research, the exchange and utilization of data and information, the development of seed funding schemes in priority subsectors, facilitation of intellectual property utilization, as well as the strengthening of protection and conservation of Indonesia’s cultural heritage.

The synergy will also support the implementation of three flagship programs of the Ministry of Creative Economy, namely Creative Village Activation, Creative Hub or Creative Space Activation, and Creative by Indonesia. These three programs will serve as strategic collaborative platforms with BRIN for talent development, research, innovation, downstreaming of creative works, and the commercialization of intellectual property to enhance the competitiveness of Indonesia’s creative economy.

“The creative economy is an economy that never runs out. It is an unlimited resource. Because creativity is unlimited. Therefore, the creative economy will become a mainstay going forward, and BRIN is ready to support it. There are many areas that we can strengthen from the research and innovation perspective, particularly in fields that the Ministry of Creative Economy considers strategic. The research we conduct will be aligned with the needs,” said Head of BRIN, Arif Satria.

In addition to supporting the implementation of the Creative Economy Masterplan, the collaboration between the two institutions is also aimed at strengthening the organization of The 5th World Conference on Creative Economy (WCCE) 2026, which will be held on 21–23 October 2026 in Jakarta. The Ministry of Creative Economy hopes that BRIN can actively participate through the Creative Session as a platform for disseminating research and innovation findings in the creative economy, enabling academic contributions to strengthen evidence-based policymaking and Indonesia’s position as a global reference for the creative economy,” concluded the Minister of Creative Economy.

During the signing, the Minister of Creative Economy was accompanied by Secretary of the Ministry of Creative Economy, Dessy Ruhati; Special Staff to the Minister of Creative Economy, Yanuar Pranuradhi; Acting Deputy for Strategic Development of the Ministry of Creative Economy, Agus Syarip Hidayat; Director of Funding, Financing and Investment Access Development of the Ministry of Creative Economy, Anggara Hayun; and Head of the Legal, Human Resources, and Organization Bureau of the Ministry of Creative Economy, M. Nurul Huda.

Meanwhile, the Head of BRIN was accompanied by BRIN Secretary-General, Nur Tri Aries Suestiningtyas; BRIN Inspector General, Christianus Ratrias Dewanto; Deputy for Research and Innovation Infrastructure of BRIN, Dadan Moh. Nurjaman; Deputy for Research and Innovation Utilization of BRIN, R. Hendrian; Deputy for Research and Innovation Facilities of BRIN, Agus Haryono; Deputy for Development Policy of BRIN, R. Nunung Nuryartono; Deputy for Human Resources for Science and Technology (SDM IPTEK) of BRIN, Edy Giri Rachman; and Deputy for Regional Research and Innovation, Yopi.
