Minister of Creative Economy Strengthens Indonesia’s Collective Soft Power through Nusantara Rising at IdeaFest

Jakarta, September 4, 2026 – Minister of Creative Economy/Head of the Creative Economy Agency (Ekraf), Teuku Riefky Harsya, expressed his appreciation for the launch of “Nusantara Rising: Indonesia Collective Soft Power Movement” by the Indonesian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KADIN Indonesia). According to the Minister, this initiative holds strategic significance given Indonesia’s extraordinary wealth of culture, talent, stories, and creativity.

Minister of Creative Economy/Head of the Creative Economy Agency (Ekraf), Teuku Riefky Harsya, expressed his appreciation for the launch of “Nusantara Rising: Indonesia Collective Soft Power Movement” by the Indonesian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KADIN Indonesia) during IdeaFest 2026 at the Jakarta International Convention Center (JICC), Friday (4/9/2026).

“The Ministry of Creative Economy is ready to collaborate with KADIN Indonesia in supporting ‘Nusantara Rising.’ We do not want Indonesia to merely become a market for global content, but rather grow into a content powerhouse capable of bringing our culture, characters, and stories into creative works by Indonesian talents, including music, film, animation, and games, to the global stage. The main challenge is to collectively orchestrate all of this potential so that it becomes a source of economic strength and Indonesia’s soft power at the global level,” said Teuku Riefky during the “Dari Budaya Jadi Daya” session at the Jakarta International Convention Center (JICC), Friday (4/9).

The Ministry of Creative Economy considers this initiative to be in line with the Presidential Regulation on the Master Plan for the Creative Economy (Rindekraf), under the direction of President Prabowo Subianto, which mandates collaboration among 26 ministries and government institutions to build a long-term national ecosystem (2026–2045) and a medium-term ecosystem (2026–2029), along with targets for the next three years. In addition to expanding business classifications from 17 to 21 subsectors through the inclusion of digital content, new technology, voice-over, and automotive modification, Rindekraf, together with the 2025–2029 National Medium-Term Development Plan (RPJMN), also establishes seven priority subsectors, including film, animation, music, and games, which are projected to have a significant impact on investment, exports, employment, and national Gross Domestic Product (GDP).

The President’s strong attention to the creative economy is also based on the fact that the sector is not merely a supporting sector, but has transformed into one of the new engines of national economic growth, as demonstrated by significant increases in Key Performance Indicators (KPIs). In line with Rindekraf, this commitment is further strengthened through the flagship Creative by Indonesia program, which aims to support intellectual property-based works so they can become leaders in their own domestic market while penetrating global markets in an integrated and sustainable manner.

“The challenge is not only how to make Indonesian works known to the world, but also how that exposure can generate economic benefits for Indonesian creators. This is where the spirit of ‘Nusantara Rising: Indonesia Collective Soft Power Movement,’ initiated by KADIN, is expected to serve as a facilitator for the missing middle for creative economy players, particularly content creators who already have business models but still require financing to scale up their businesses. This can be done through co-production or co-investment schemes to expand access to capital, technology, and markets at both the national and international levels, as a form of soft power diplomacy that creates an impact on Indonesia’s national exposure and economy,” the Minister emphasized.

The Minister’s attendance at the event followed up on the collaboration with KADIN Indonesia established during an audience in Jakarta on October 21, 2025, which discussed scale-up strategies for creative economy players.

IdeaFest is an annual creative industry festival held since 2011 and initiated by Samara Group as a collaborative space for visionaries. During the “Dari Budaya Jadi Daya” session, KADIN Indonesia launched the “Nusantara Rising: Indonesia Collective Soft Power Movement.” The event aims to bring together the government, business sector, and creative players to transform cultural assets into tangible economic impact.

“This is not merely about economic value, but also about influence, narratives, and our nation’s sovereignty in the eyes of the world. This is what we are starting today: ‘Nusantara Rising: fashion leading Beyond Culture’—from culture to economic power, from local works to the global stage, from potential to influence, and from a large market to becoming a major player,” said Coordinating Vice Chairperson for Human Development, Culture, and Sustainable Development of KADIN Indonesia, Shinta Widjaja Kamdani.

The launch agenda was also attended by Minister of Culture Fadli Zon and members of KADIN Indonesia. The Minister of Creative Economy was accompanied by Deputy for Digital Creativity and Technology Muhammad Neil El Himam; Deputy for Strategic Development of the Creative Economy, Mohammed Ali Berawi; Special Staff to the Minister for Strategic and Inter-Institutional Affairs, Rian Firmansyah; Head of Bureau for Communication, Kiagoos Irvan Faisal; Director of Strategic Studies and Management, Agus Syarip Hidayat; Director of Games, Luat Sihombing; Director of Crafts, Neli Yana; and Expert Staff to the Minister for Strategic and Inter-Institutional Affairs, Gemintang Kejora Mallarangeng.
