Minister of Creative Economy Teuku Riefky Pays Tribute at Cut Nyak Dhien’s Grave, Reinforcing the Spirit of Honoring the Nation’s History and Heroes

Sumedang, August 4, 2026 – Minister of Creative Economy/Head of the Creative Economy Agency, Teuku Riefky Harsya, paid tribute at the grave of National Hero Cut Nyak Dhien at the Gunung Puyuh Cemetery Complex in Sumedang, West Java, on Tuesday (August 4), accompanied by representatives of the Cut Nyak Dhien Foundation. The visit took place prior to the Minister’s working visit to Sumedang Regency to strengthen the development of the creative economy ecosystem in collaboration with the local government.

Minister of Creative Economy/Head of the Creative Economy Agency, Teuku Riefky Harsya, paid his respects at the grave of National Hero Cut Nyak Dhien at the Gunung Puyuh Cemetery Complex, Sumedang, West Java, on Tuesday (August 4, 2026).

The pilgrimage held profound personal significance for Teuku Riefky. In addition to paying tribute to one of Indonesia’s national heroes, the Minister shares ancestral ties with Cut Nyak Dhien through the lineage of the Uleebalang in the VI Mukim area of Peukan Bada, Aceh Besar. This connection serves as a reminder of the importance of preserving the nation’s historical legacy and the values of struggle passed down by previous generations.

“Cut Nyak Dhien belongs not only to Aceh, but to all Indonesians. Her spirit of courage, resilience, and sacrifice is a legacy that must continue to live on in every generation. This pilgrimage reminds us that the independence we enjoy today was built upon the struggles of our predecessors,” said Teuku Riefky.

According to the Minister, Aceh’s history of resistance embodies the values of courage, perseverance, patriotism, and an unwavering spirit that remain relevant in addressing the nation’s current challenges.

“Honoring history is not merely about remembering the past, but about drawing inspiration from it to build the future. Young people need to learn about figures such as Cut Nyak Dhien so that the values of heroism, unity, and nationalism continue to flourish,” he added.

The pilgrimage concluded with a joint prayer in honor of Cut Nyak Dhien and all of Indonesia’s national heroes. Teuku Riefky also visited the Cut Nyak Dhien Heritage House in Sumedang, which forms part of the historical site where the national heroine lived during her exile until her passing in 1908.

Through this pilgrimage, the Ministry of Creative Economy reaffirmed that honoring the nation’s history and its heroes is an essential part of building national character. The values of courage, resilience, and love for Indonesia remain a lasting foundation to inspire today’s generation to create, innovate, and contribute to the nation’s future.
