Minister Supports Jakarta World Cinema as a Catalyst for Taking Indonesia’s Film Industry Global

Jakarta, July 9, 2026 – Minister of Creative Economy/Head of the Creative Economy Agency Teuku Riefky Harsya received representatives of Jakarta World Cinema (JWC) at the Ministry of Creative Economy office in Jakarta to discuss the development of JWC as an international film festival that contributes to the growth of Indonesia’s film industry while strengthening the national creative economy, particularly the film subsector.

Minister of Creative Economy Teuku Riefky Harsya receives representatives of Jakarta World Cinema (JWC) during an official meeting at the Ministry of Creative Economy office in Jakarta on Thursday, July 9, 2026.

The Minister emphasized that JWC plays a strategic role as an intellectual property (IP)-based event capable of bringing together stakeholders across the hexahelix ecosystem, including filmmakers, film communities, academics, businesses, government institutions, media, and film enthusiasts from around the world. He noted that this potential creates an opportunity for JWC to become part of the World Conference on Creative Economy (WCCE) series.

“Jakarta World Cinema is an IP-based event that plays an important role in strengthening Indonesia’s film ecosystem. The Ministry of Creative Economy is ready to collaborate with various strategic partners to help the festival continue to grow, expand its impact, and potentially become part of the World Conference on Creative Economy (WCCE),” said the Minister on Thursday (July 9).

JWC is an international film festival showcasing award-winning films from leading global festivals, including the Cannes Film Festival, while also organizing supporting programs such as workshops and short film competitions. In 2025, the festival attracted 208,111 visitors, screening 200 films from 66 countries.

Beyond serving as a platform to celebrate world cinema, JWC also actively nurtures emerging filmmakers through the KlikFilm Short Movie Competition. The program provides young filmmakers with opportunities to enter the professional film industry, including the chance to direct a feature-length film. One of the competition’s 2025 winners has already secured the opportunity to produce a full-length feature film.

Razka Robby Ertanto, Director of Public Affairs for JWC 2026, said this year’s festival will take place in Jakarta from October 31 to November 7, followed by events in Bandung and Malang from November 14 to 21. Carrying the vision of “Festival of the Festivals,” JWC will present outstanding films from prestigious international festivals while serving as a platform for emerging filmmaking talent.

“We hope the Ministry of Creative Economy will collaborate with us to further elevate Jakarta World Cinema. Through the KlikFilm Short Movie Competition, JWC also provides a gateway for new filmmakers to enter the professional film industry,” said Razka.
