“At the Ministry of Creative Economy, we have two very important priorities for the fashion sector. First, to make Indonesia the world’s modest fashion hub. Second, to establish Indonesia as a center for sustainable fashion innovation. Sustainable fashion is not just about the materials used, but also about how clothing becomes part of the wearer’s identity,” Irene said while attending Fashion Parade #7 at the 2026 Indonesia International Modest Fashion Festival (IN2MOTIONFEST) x Jakarta Muslim Fashion Week (JMFW) at the Jakarta International Convention Center (JICC) on Thursday (October 15).
Irene emphasized that sustainable fashion development must balance production capacity, environmental preservation, and design uniqueness. This strategy is strengthened through cross-sector collaboration, including partnerships that bring Nusantara’s traditional textiles into the international gaming industry. Irene cited the batik motif she wore, which was featured as part of the official souvenirs for the PUBG Mobile World Championship. This initiative demonstrates the potential for local culture to enter the global digital ecosystem.

“Indonesian batik and traditional textiles are part of our cultural heritage and are highly appreciated abroad. However, here at home, it is our shared responsibility to ensure that young people feel that Indonesian culture remains relevant to them, because it is part of our national identity. We can do this through collaborations with international brands and by expanding into overseas markets,” Irene said.
Fashion Parade #7 at IN2MOTIONFEST x JMFW 2026 showcased collections from 11 established brands: ALRAFI, Asky Febrianty, Batik Siger, Batik Widayati x GEYA, EIWA, Erika Chung (Taiwan), Fahmi Sasirangan, KAYO, Kiki Mahendra, MYLYF Official, and Puru Kambera. The collections highlighted the richness of Nusantara’s traditional textiles through contemporary design approaches. Taiwanese designer Erika Chung also reinforced the sustainability theme through the use of natural fibers and recycled materials.
