Jakarta, July 28, 2026 – Deputy Minister of Creative Economy/Deputy Head of the Creative Economy Agency (Ekraf), Irene Umar, said that KOREA-ASEAN K-Content Bizweek 2026 serves as a strategic forum bringing together the Korean content industry with creative economy talents from Southeast Asia.
Deputy Minister of Creative Economy, Irene Umar, delivers the opening remarks at the KOREA-ASEAN K-Content Bizweek 2026 at The Ritz-Carlton, Jakarta, Tuesday (28/7/2026).
The event also serves as a follow-up to the exploration of strategic collaboration between Indonesia and South Korea in the film and music subsectors, which was previously discussed during a meeting between the Ministry of Creative Economy and the Korea Creative Content Agency (KOCCA) on January 15, 2026.
According to Irene, the size of the market, high levels of creativity, and rapid growth in digital consumption make Indonesia not only a target market, but also a strategic partner in creating works and innovations together.
“Through licensing collaborations, co-branding, animation co-production, and distribution partnerships, we can transform intellectual property into business assets that generate sustainable economic value for regional creators,” said Irene in her opening remarks at KOREA-ASEAN K-Content Bizweek 2026 at The Ritz-Carlton, Jakarta, Tuesday (28/7).

On the occasion, Irene also stated that Indonesia’s creative economy continues to show positive growth as one of the main pillars of the national economy. Over the past decade, the sector’s added value has grown by 119 percent, reaching approximately USD 85 billion or contributing 6.9 percent to national GDP in 2024. This growth has also been supported by the absorption of more than 26 million creative workers and a 67 percent increase in creative economy exports, particularly from the film, animation, gaming, and music subsectors.
According to Irene, strengthening the intellectual property (IP)-based content ecosystem is in line with Presidential Regulation Number 37 of 2026 on the Masterplan for the Creative Economy (Rindekraf) 2026–2045, which was enacted by President Prabowo Subianto on July 2, 2026. Through the Ekraf Kaya strategic pillar, Rindekraf encourages the commercialization of IP through collaboration with various partners, including platforms such as KOREA-ASEAN K-Content Bizweek 2026, to expand Indonesian creators’ access to global markets.
“The Government of Indonesia is fully committed to facilitating copyright protection and developing intellectual property business models so that the works of local creators can compete internationally. We also hope that this forum can continue to strengthen business collaboration and cultural diplomacy in order to generate new innovations, as well as close business and cultural collaborations,” explained Irene.
KOREA-ASEAN K-Content Bizweek 2026 is an annual business matching event initiated by the Korea Creative Content Agency (KOCCA) Indonesia since 2021. The forum aims to bring together creative industry players from South Korea with strategic partners from ASEAN countries such as Indonesia, Malaysia, Singapore, the Philippines, as well as Australia, across the broadcasting, animation, gaming, immersive content, and webtoon sectors.

The event generated business consultation value amounting to USD 21.4 million and contractual agreements worth USD 6.24 million.
“In line with the theme, ‘The Place Where Korean Content Meets Its Next Partner,’ through this event, KOCCA is committed to continuing to provide a space for two-way content exchange and collaboration that can sustainably drive the growth of the regional creative economy. We hope this joint session can serve as a valuable opportunity to develop our businesses together,” said Regional Director of KOCCA Indonesia, Shin Hwa Beom.
Accompanying the Deputy Minister of Creative Economy at the business forum was Director of Intellectual Property Facilitation Development, Muhammad Fauzy.
