The Ministry of Creative Economy / Creative Economy Agency (Ekraf) is ready to continue its collaboration with Taman Mini Indonesia Indah (TMII) to optimize Keong Emas as a performance space for Indonesia’s creative economy ecosystem, Jakarta, Wednesday (30/9/2026).
“The Ministry of Creative Economy always operates based on a framework and ambition to collaborate. We see Keong Emas as a potential venue for musical theater performances or as part of the roadmap for activating the film subsector, as well as for community workshops that optimize the venue for those in need of a performance space. It’s just a matter of ensuring each program is well-curated and sustainable so that the creative ecosystem can grow together,” the Deputy Minister of Creative Economy said during a meeting with TMII management at the Ministry of Creative Economy’s office in Jakarta on Wednesday (September 30).
The Deputy Minister of Creative Economy also highlighted the potential for “video mapping” initiatives involving students from various universities to showcase creative works on a regular basis within the TMII complex. In this way, Keong Emas would not only serve as a film screening venue, but can also be utilized for art showcases, festivals, performances, workshops, and various other creative programs.

“We want Keong Emas to be more than just a venue for a single type of activity, we want it to be a space that provides a stage for communities, students, and filmmakers. Through ongoing collaboration, creative works can find a space to connect with the public. We expect this initiative will restore Keong Emas as a creative space that remains relevant across generations,” the Deputy Minister of Creative Economy said.
In line with the Deputy Minister of Creative Economy, Doni Setiawan, Director of Film, Animation, and Video at the Ministry of Creative Economy, proposed that Keong Emas receive support and facilitation through the Ministry’s strategic partners, such as the Jakarta Film Commission. In this context, TMII can serve as a liaison, in alignment with the initiative toward “Jakarta: City of Cinema 2027” (Jakarta Kota Sinema 2027).
“Jakarta currently has the Jakarta Film Commission, which is also working to provide various locations for film production. Keong Emas could eventually be integrated and developed as one of the destinations or locations for filmmaking that can be included in Indonesia’s film calendar, particularly for non-commercial projects,” Doni Setiawan explained.

Keong Emas is one of TMII’s iconic landmarks, having been in operation since April 20, 1984, as a recreational and educational facility that showcases Indonesia’s natural and cultural wealth through IMAX projector technology. With a capacity of approximately 790 seats, consisting of 750 regular seats and 40 VIP seats, every event held at Keong Emas can reach a large audience.
“Keong Emas is very iconic and is the most recognizable part of Taman Mini Indonesia Indah. We believe we must revitalize this Indonesian icon in a tangible form, one that is not only recognized nationally but can also gain greater international visibility. “We want Taman Mini to serve as a creative hub for the creative economy, where Keong Emas can become a venue for events, not only musical ones but also those related to the film subsector, thereby gaining broader exposure,” Ratri Paramita, Acting CEO of TMII, said.
