Jakarta, August 17, 2026 – To commemorate the 81st Anniversary of the Independence of the Republic of Indonesia, the government presented a video mapping performance at the National Monument (Monas), Jakarta, on Monday (August 17). Held from 6:00 p.m. to 11:00 p.m. WIB, the performance portrayed Indonesia’s journey through three phases: the struggle leading up to independence, the Proclamation of Independence, and the nation’s development toward Golden Indonesia 2045.
Members of the public watch the video mapping performance at the Monas Monument, Jakarta, Monday (August 17, 2026).
“The performance features 13 visual contents supported by 32 high-tech projectors that have previously been used in various international events,” said the Minister of Creative Economy/Head of the Creative Economy Agency (Ekraf) during the 2026 Merdeka Night press conference in Jakarta on Monday (August 17).
The technology used enabled visuals to be projected directly onto the surface of the Monas monument, conveying elements of history, national identity, creativity, and Indonesia’s vision for the future.
In addition to highlighting the nation’s journey, the video mapping performance also conveyed a message of solidarity through the words #PrayForNTT. The message served as an expression of condolences as well as support from the government and the people of Indonesia for communities in East Nusa Tenggara (NTT) who are currently facing a disaster.
The presence of #PrayForNTT in the video mapping performance symbolized that the spirit of independence is also reflected through care and mutual cooperation. Amid the commemoration of the 81st Anniversary of Indonesia’s Independence, the public was encouraged to support one another and demonstrate solidarity with their fellow Indonesians in East Nusa Tenggara (NTT) who are facing adversity.

In addition to the video mapping, the government also presented an immersive installation, a decorated vehicle carnival, and a drone show in the Bundaran Hotel Indonesia (HI) area of Jakarta.
“We designed this entire series to invite the public to commemorate independence with a spirit of togetherness without boundaries. Cross-institutional synergy. Coming together for one day with an impact on the people's economy. These four activities bring together creativity and technology, involving thousands of creative talents from various subsectors, including design, fashion, culinary, music, performing arts, digital content, and emerging technologies, to tell the story of Indonesia across time,” said the Minister of Creative Economy.
Through this series of activities, the government created a space for celebrating independence that combines technology, art, creativity, history, and national messages, while encouraging the public to look toward Indonesia’s future with optimism and a spirit of unity.
