Strategic Partnership with Tencent to Strengthen Indonesia’s Creative Economy Ecosystem Explored by Minister of Creative Economy

Jakarta, July 14, 2026 – Minister of Creative Economy/Head of the Creative Economy Agency, Teuku Riefky Harsya, received a delegation from Tencent to discuss opportunities for expanding strategic collaboration aimed at strengthening Indonesia’s creative economy ecosystem, particularly in the game, entertainment, and digital content subsectors. The Minister also expressed appreciation for Tencent’s continued contribution to Indonesia’s creative economy over the past several years.

“We are pleased to see Tencent’s continued investment in the esports ecosystem. We hope Tencent will continue exploring broader opportunities for collaboration—not only in gaming and esports, but also in talent development, digital innovation, and the wider creative economy ecosystem,” said Minister of Creative Economy Teuku Riefky Harsya during the meeting at the Ministry of Creative Economy office in Jakarta on Tuesday (July 14).

Tencent is a global technology company and one of the world’s largest game developers and publishers. Throughout 2024 and 2025, the company contributed to the growth of Indonesia’s creative economy talent by enhancing capabilities and connecting local developers with the global gaming industry. In addition to publishing popular titles such as Honor of Kings and PUBG MOBILE, Tencent operates the streaming platform WeTV, which features locally produced content for the Indonesian market, as well as the online literature platform China Literature.

Over the past few years, Tencent has collaborated with the Ministry of Creative Economy on various initiatives, including support for the GAMESEED talent development program, the organization of the Honor of Kings Invitational Series Season 4, and the celebration of PUBG MOBILE’s eighth anniversary, all of which involved local creative economy stakeholders.

With business operations spanning technology and entertainment, Tencent has supported the creation and distribution of local content through its various platforms and products, including games and WeTV, while engaging creators and industry partners across its ecosystem. The company noted that its expertise in content development, digital platforms, cloud computing, artificial intelligence, and payment systems could serve as a strong foundation for future collaboration aligned with the objectives of the 2026–2045 Creative Economy Master Plan (Rindekraf).

The Ministry of Creative Economy and Tencent also discussed potential areas for further cooperation, including talent development, capacity building, and opportunities to expand the reach of Indonesian creative content and intellectual property.

The Tencent delegation was led by Sherwyn Koh, Tencent Global Public Affairs Lead for Indonesia, Thailand, and the Philippines; Agung Chaniago, PUBG MOBILE Indonesia Country Lead; Febriamy Hutapea, WeTV Indonesia Country Head; along with other representatives from Tencent Indonesia.

The Minister of Creative Economy was accompanied by Senior Advisor for Funding and Financing Restog Krisna Kusuma; Deputy for Digital Creativity and Technology Muhammad Neil El Himam; Acting Deputy for Strategic Creative Economy Development Agus Syarip Hidayat; Director of Games Luat Sihombing; and Acting Director for Marketing System Development and Institutional Relations Aulia Chloridiany.
