Vice Minister: MASA Marks a New Chapter for Indonesian Creativity on the Global Stage

Jakarta, July 4, 2026 – The Ministry of Creative Economy/Creative Economy Agency (Ekraf) is supporting MASA Singapore 2026, held at Takashimaya Shopping Centre in Singapore, as part of its strategic efforts to expand international market access for Indonesia’s creative economy players.

Vice Minister of Creative Economy/Vice Head of the Creative Economy Agency (Ekraf), Irene Umar, delivers opening remarks and officially launches the MASA Singapore 2026 program at Takashimaya Shopping Centre in Singapore, Thursday, July 2, 2026.

“MASA marks a bold new chapter for Indonesian creativity on the global stage. Rooted in our rich cultural heritage and the spirit of gotong royong (mutual cooperation), we aim to elevate Indonesian creativity from individual achievements to collective impact. Singapore serves as our first gateway to introduce this potential to the world,” said Vice Minister of Creative Economy Irene Umar during the opening of MASA Singapore 2026 on Thursday (July 2).

The event brings together more than 80 Indonesian brands, artists, designers, and creators on a curated platform showcasing the strength of Indonesia’s creative economy. Carrying the theme A Sight into the Golden Indonesia Era, MASA presents contemporary Indonesia through fashion, design, art, music, culinary arts, architecture, and hospitality. By bringing together dozens of brands and creators in one exhibition space, the event creates opportunities to expand business networks, attract investment, and foster collaboration with international partners.

This international expansion aligns with the positive performance of Indonesia’s creative economy. According to data from Statistics Indonesia (BPS) processed by the Ministry of Creative Economy, creative economy exports reached USD 31.94 billion in 2025, representing a 17.72 percent increase from USD 27.14 billion in 2024. The sector contributed 11.84 percent of Indonesia’s total non-oil and gas exports.

Following its opening at Takashimaya, MASA will continue with MASA Art & Culture – Orchid Extravaganza at Gardens by the Bay from July 4 to August 10, 2026, featuring art installations inspired by Indonesia’s diverse geography. The next program, MASA Sound, will take place on July 12, 2026, showcasing Indonesian musicians including Marbles, Future Loundry, Pengayoman, Alan dan Presiden Tidore, and Matter Mos.

MASA Executive Director Heliandi (Ando) Fajar Saputra said the initiative was created to position Indonesia as a globally competitive creative ecosystem while preserving its cultural identity.

“MASA was born from the aspiration to demonstrate that Indonesian creativity can stand proudly on the global stage without losing its identity. Through the spirit of gotong royong, we hope to build a movement that introduces Indonesia to the world through its creative works,” said Ando.

Through cross-sector collaboration, the Ministry of Creative Economy continues to foster an ecosystem that supports the development of globally competitive local intellectual property (IP). These efforts are expected to create greater opportunities for exports, investment, and international partnerships, enabling the creative economy to play an increasingly significant role as a new engine of Indonesia’s economic growth.
