Vice Minister of Creative Economy Irene Umar officially opens Thai Festival Jakarta 2026, organized by the Royal Thai Embassy in Indonesia, in Jakarta on Friday, July 10, 2026.
“Thai Festival is a platform where culture, creativity, and the people of both countries come together. It demonstrates that the creative economy can serve as a bridge that strengthens people-to-people connections while fostering mutually beneficial economic cooperation,” said Vice Minister Irene Umar during the opening ceremony of Thai Festival Jakarta 2026 in Jakarta on Friday (July 10).
The festival showcases various aspects of Thai culture, including Chud Thai traditional costume exhibitions, cultural and performing arts, Muay Thai demonstrations, culinary experiences, creative products and crafts, and performances by contemporary Thai musicians. The event also provides opportunities for creative economy stakeholders from both countries to expand professional networks, promote creative products, and build collaborative partnerships.
Indonesia and Thailand have cooperated in the creative economy sector through the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on Cooperation in the Creative Industry, originally signed in 2019. Following its expiration in 2025, the Ministry of Creative Economy and the Royal Thai Government agreed to renew the MoU on February 13, 2026, with a focus on policy and best-practice exchanges, creative talent development, digital technology utilization, and expanded market access and investment opportunities.

We hope to see more collaborations through talent exchanges, creative product promotion, joint festivals, regional and global market development, and investment partnerships in the creative economy sector,” Irene said.
The Royal Thai Ambassador to Indonesia, Prapan Disyatat, stated that Thai Festival Jakarta serves as a platform to introduce Thailand’s culture, cuisine, tourism, and creative economy to the Indonesian public.
“We hope this year’s Thai Festival will provide a valuable opportunity for the people of both countries to deepen mutual understanding, strengthen friendship, and create even more opportunities for cooperation between Thailand and Indonesia in the future,” said Prapan.
