80 Years of Independence, Ministry of Creative Economy–RRI Position the Creative Sector as an Engine of Growth Toward Golden Indonesia 2045

Jakarta, 11 August 2025 Commemorating the 80th Anniversary of the Republic of Indonesia (the 80th Independence Day), the Ministry of Creative Economy (Creative Economy Agency) collaborated with Radio Republik Indonesia (RRI) to present the EKRAFisME x Radio Masih Ada Podcast, held at the “Radio Masih Ada” Studio, Chubb Square, Thamrin Nine, Jakarta. On this occasion, Minister of Creative Economy Teuku Riefky Harsya and Deputy Minister Irene Umar discussed the role of the creative sector as a driver of unity, digital innovation, and progress toward Golden Indonesia 2045.

In a discussion titled “80 Years of Independence, the Creative Economy is Ready to Support an Advancing Indonesia,” the conversation explored the nation’s independence journey from the perspective of creative MSME actors and young talents, while identifying opportunities for sustainable creative economy growth amid technological disruption and shifting global trends.

The Minister of Creative Economy emphasized that independence is a momentum to renew the spirit of mutual cooperation in forms relevant to the times.

“In the past, we celebrated independence with traditional competitions such as tug of war, pole climbing, or sack races. Today, those stages of celebration also exist in digital spaces—through short films, virtual exhibitions, game competitions, cross-regional music collaborations, and innovative applications. The spirit remains the same; only the medium has evolved,” said the Minister of Creative Economy.

The Minister added that subsectors such as culinary, fashion, crafts, music, film, games, and digital applications have significantly contributed to national GDP, job creation, and exports.

“We are committed to positioning the creative economy as the new engine of growth through cross-sector collaboration that delivers benefits across the archipelago,” the Minister asserted.

Four strategic priorities also became key points: intellectual property protection, enhancement of digital literacy, expansion of financing access, and strengthening of community-based creative economies anchored in local wisdom to compete in global markets. The Minister expressed optimism that over the next two decades, Indonesia’s creative ecosystem will become increasingly inclusive, competitive, and globally recognized.

The Deputy Minister of Creative Economy highlighted that true progress can only be achieved when all stakeholders move in unison.

“Unity and sovereignty are essential. We may differ, but we must advance together. Clothing, food, shelter, health—all are tied to public welfare. The creative economy acts as a catalyst to ensure that progress remains sustainable,” she explained.

The Deputy Minister also encouraged young generations and creative communities to use the Independence Day momentum to showcase their work—on physical stages and digital platforms—while strengthening Indonesia’s image on the world stage.

An interactive Q&A session further explored the development direction of the creative economy following the 80th Independence Day celebration, including strategies for cross-sector collaboration and the use of technology to expand Indonesia’s creative market.

Through this collaboration, the Ministry of Creative Economy and RRI hope that the spirit of independence becomes a collective energy to advance a sustainable creative economy, uplift local wisdom, broaden opportunities for creative MSMEs, and strengthen Indonesia’s position on the international stage.
