Jakarta, February 6, 2025 – Minister of Creative Economy/Head of the Creative Economy Agency, Teuku Riefky Harsya, has urged the Indonesian Food and Drug Authority (Badan Pengawas Obat dan Makanan - BPOM) to strengthen its support for Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) to achieve the national economic growth target of 8%.
This statement was made by Minister of Creative Economy Riefky during a meeting with the Head of BPOM, Prof. Dr. Taruna Ikrar, M. Biomed., Ph.D., and his team at Gedung Garuda, Jakarta, on Thursday, February 6, 2025.
During the meeting, Riefky emphasized the importance of collaboration between ministries and agencies to drive national economic growth. He highlighted the need for stronger cooperation with BPOM to help MSMEs grow more easily and improve their competitiveness.

"MSMEs must become a key subsector of the creative economy, capable of creating wider job opportunities. According to BPS data, employment in this sector has increased by 80% over the past decade. Given the growing trend of labor-intensive creative industries, collaboration with BPOM will help small businesses scale up and improve product quality," said Riefky.
As a follow-up, the Ministry of Creative Economy and BPOM have agreed to establish a small task force to develop a collaboration plan, which will be formalized through a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU). The MoU will not only be normative but also innovative, focusing on improving human resource quality and intellectual property management within the MSME sector.

"This collaboration is crucial because the creative economy sector involves multiple stakeholders. One of the key initiatives is curating MSME products to meet the necessary standards, allowing them to scale up and access larger markets," he added.
The Minister of Creative Economy also highlighted the need to enhance the quality of MSME products, particularly in the traditional medicine, health supplements, and cosmetics industries. He expressed hope that BPOM could assist in the certification process and provide guidance to boost the competitiveness of local products.
Meanwhile, BPOM Head Prof. Dr. Taruna Ikrar, M. Biomed., Ph.D., reaffirmed his agency's commitment to ensuring the safety, stability, and quality standards of MSME products. He noted that BPOM has various programs supporting MSMEs, including the Wellness Festival and Safe Food Village Program.
