“Art for Peace and a Better Future” Exhibition Showcases 31 Artworks Promoting Peace and the Future

Jakarta, 29 August 2025 – Commemorating the 80th Anniversary of Indonesia’s Independence, SBY Art Community presents the monumental painting exhibition “Art for Peace and a Better Future.” The exhibition will be held at ASHTA District 8, SCBD Jakarta, running for one month from 31 August to 28 September 2025.

Press Conference Pameran SBY Art Community di ASHTA District 8, Jakarta, Jumat (29/08/2025).

SBY Art Community was founded on the vision of Indonesia’s 6th President, Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono (SBY), who believes that visual art can serve as a bridge for peace and a reflective space for global justice. The community is grounded in three thematic pillars: conflict resolution, humanitarian advocacy, and environmental sustainability.

A total of 31 paintings are on display, exploring themes of peace, sustainability, and intergenerational hope. The exhibition is a collaborative effort involving four art institutions (FSRD ISI Yogyakarta, FSRD ISI Surakarta, FSRD ITB, and FSRD IKJ) alongside four independent professional artists.

This collaboration transforms the exhibition into a visual dialogue that intertwines humanitarian and ecological values. Ediwan Prabowo, Coordinator of SBY Art Community, emphasized that the exhibition is more than a showcase; it is a tangible collaborative journey.

“This exhibition is not just about presenting engaging artworks, but also about a reflective and collaborative experience. Each piece was created specifically to convey the central theme of ‘Art for Peace and a Better Future,’” said Ediwan.

Director of Visual and Performing Arts at the Ministry of Creative Economy, Dadam Mahdar, noted that the exhibition demonstrates how visual art can assert its presence within society and serves as evidence of the creative economy as the new engine of growth.

“The exhibition features 21 artists, including President SBY himself with eight of his paintings. These large-scale works will be on display for one month until the end of September. This exhibition is unique due to the size and collaborative nature of the paintings,” explained Dadam Mahdar.

The highlight of the exhibition is a collaborative painting measuring 2.5 x 7 meters, created by SBY together with community artists, inspired by SBY’s song “Save Our World,” which calls for global solidarity and environmental stewardship. Additionally, eight personal paintings by SBY are featured, offering his reflections on peace, humanity, and love for the nation.

Exhibition curator Suwarno Wisetrotomo described the event as a visual dialogue that inspires the public to contemplate global issues through art. Each painting carries a message about empathy, life preservation, and hope for a better future.

“SBY Art Community connects numerous artists, from institutional students to independent professionals. The community demonstrates that art can be a shared space for learning, reflection, and inspiration. Ultimately, art is not just to be seen but to be felt,” said Suwarno.

As part of public education, the exhibition includes an Artist Talk program, offering dialogue between artists and visitors to discuss creative processes, artistic philosophy, and the role of art in building a more peaceful and sustainable future. The exhibition aims to strengthen community spirit while affirming the role of visual art in supporting sustainable development.
