Attending the Gala Premiere of Komang Film, Deputy Minister of Creative Economy Supports Filmmakers to Keep Creating

Jakarta, March 19, 2025 – Deputy Minister of Creative Economy/Deputy Minister of the Creative Economy Agency, Irene Umar, described Komang as an excellent example of collaboration across the creative economy subsectors. Deputy Minister of Creative Economy Irene also emphasized the need for public support to ensure the continuous growth of the film industry.

"The film Komang demonstrates how film and music can inspire and strengthen the creative industry ecosystem. Collaborations like this must be encouraged so that Indonesian cinema continues to grow and can compete in the global market," said Deputy Minister of Creative Economy Irene while attending the Gala Premiere of Komang at Epicentrum XXI, Jakarta, on Wednesday, March 19, 2025.

Komang, directed by Naya Anindiya, is an adaptation of a song by Raim Laode, telling the love story of Ode, a young man from Buton, Southeast Sulawesi, and Ade, a migrant from Bali. Their joyful journey faces several challenges that test the strength of their love. The film stands as an example of collaboration between the film and music industries, as it is inspired by the popular song of the same name.

In her remarks, Deputy Minister of Creative Economy Irene emphasized the importance of synergy between creative economy subsectors. In addition to supporting inter-subsector collaboration, the Ministry of Creative Economy also plays a role in amplifying the promotion of Komang through various communication channels, including owned media and strategic partnerships with key opinion leaders (KOLs).

The government's presence at this event also aimed to strengthen ties with creative industry players and provide positive testimony for Indonesian films to gain wider recognition. Irene Umar added that this film is not just an adaptation of a popular song but is also based on research into market trends.

"Based on data, Indonesian audiences today have a strong preference for romance and comedy films. Therefore, films like Komang are designed to cater to market tastes and provide quality entertainment for the public," said Deputy Minister of Creative Economy Irene.

"Audience support is crucial for the growth of our film industry. The more people watch Indonesian films, the greater the opportunities for local filmmakers to continue creating," added Deputy Minister of Creative Economy Irene, who was accompanied by Agustini Rahayu, Deputy for Media Creativity at the Ministry of Creative Economy.

Under the leadership of Minister of Creative Economy/Minister of the Creative Economy Agency, Teuku Riefky Harsya, the Ministry of Creative Economy/Creative Economy Agency targets the creation of 27 million jobs, particularly for the younger generation, over the next five years, to create quality employment opportunities.
