Jakarta, 5 November 2025 — The Ministry of Creative Economy/Creative Economy Agency is working to expand access for Indonesian films and local intellectual property (IP) within the international cinema network Cinepolis. This initiative is expected to connect local creative works with global audiences, not only through theatrical screenings but also via cinema merchandise.
Wakil Menteri Ekonomi Kreatif, Irene Umar, PT. Cinemaxx Global Pasifik, Cinepolis, Jakarta, Rabu (5/11/2025).
“We consistently work to protect and promote local Intellectual Property (IP) so it can be developed within international cinema networks such as Cinepolis. We see potential for Cinepolis to facilitate local IP by integrating it into products like food and beverage packaging, or even showcasing short stories on the big screen. This will help strengthen the creative ecosystem that supports the film subsector,” said Deputy Minister of Creative Economy Irene Umar after an audience meeting with PT Cinemaxx Global Pasifik, Cinepolis, at Autograph Tower, Thamrin Nine, Jakarta, Wednesday, 5 November 2025.
The Deputy Minister also emphasized the importance of exploring collaborations between cinema networks, educational institutions, and filmmakers to create short film festivals or provide alternative screening spaces for short films. Strengthening data-sharing practices and ensuring transparency between producers and cinema operators were highlighted as key steps toward increasing access to viewership data for each film screened.

“Indonesia’s film distribution must be more confident in moving toward a global level. Moreover, the documentary film The Atlantis Mussels has already won awards at multiple international festivals. Works like this must be given screen time or allocated slots so more people can see them,” she added.
The growth of the creative industry also positions cinemas not merely as places to watch movies, but as alternative venues for community events and film workshops. Cinepolis itself has continued to expand globally since its establishment in Mexico in 1971. Meanwhile, Cinepolis Indonesia recently introduced its premium Macro XE format, now available in Tangerang (Maxxbox Karawaci), Palembang (Palembang Icon), and Medan (Sun Plaza).

Cinepolis consistently offers unique experiences with more immersive and epic concepts that bring world-class cinema viewing to our audience,” said CEO of Cinepolis Cinemas Indonesia, Alejandro Aguilera Garibay.
Also present at the meeting were Agustini Rahayu, Deputy for Media Creativity at the Ministry of Creative Economy, along with Radi Manggala, Director of Marketing Systems and Institutional Relations.
