Building on Jumbo’s Success, The Ministry of Creative Economy Supports “Garuda di Dadaku” Animated Film to Compete Globally

Jakarta, 2 October 2025 — The Ministry of Creative Economy reaffirms its commitment to promoting Indonesian animated films that enrich the national animation industry. The ministry extends its support to the animated film “Garuda di Dadaku”, scheduled for nationwide release in Indonesia in 2026.

“The Ministry of Creative Economy is interested in collaborating on ‘Garuda di Dadaku’ because of its potential to develop character IP into merchandise and other creative products. We will also collaborate with other ministries and institutions, as well as garner international support, for example from the Indonesian diaspora, so this animated film can be screened in multiple countries,” said Minister of Creative Economy Teuku Riefky during a meeting at the Ministry’s office in Jakarta on Thursday, 2 October 2025.

“Garuda di Dadaku” is a cross-studio collaboration involving BASE Entertainment, KAWI Animation, Springboard, Dasun Pictures, AHHA Corp, Robot Playground Media, and PK Films. Minister of Creative Economy Teuku Riefky emphasized that support for the film will consider both release strategy and intellectual property (IP) protection.

Previously, the ministry also supported the animated film “Jumbo”, which proved its ability to compete internationally, attract new investors, serve as a cultural diplomacy tool, and inspire growth in the animation industry. “Garuda di Dadaku,” targeting family audiences, is expected to achieve strong performance in line with Jumbo’s success.

“The success of ‘Jumbo’ as a top-grossing animated film marks the beginning of a revival in Indonesia’s animation industry, enabling it to compete globally. To promote ‘Garuda di Dadaku,’ various creative activations can be carried out, such as school screenings, campus discussions, and community events, all as forms of creative collaboration,” said Minister of Creative Economy Teuku Riefky.

The Ministry of Creative Economy support further encourages BASE Entertainment, an Indonesia- and Singapore-based production house, which continues to focus on delivering high-quality stories with top creative talent. “Garuda di Dadaku” was previously adapted into a feature film in 2009 and a novel “Mimpi Sang Garuda”, followed by a 2011 sequel and the 2014–2015 mini TV series “Keluarga Garuda di Dadaku”.

“Animated films are an engaging storytelling medium, and this story from the ‘Garuda di Dadaku’ universe from ten years ago has strong potential. Supporting the development of local IP opens business opportunities for the creative economy. This support reflects not only our love for the creative industry but also for football, which enjoys massive interest in Indonesia,” said Chief Executive and Producer of BASE Entertainment, Shanty Harmayn.

The visual first look of “Garuda di Dadaku” has been viewed 86,156 times on the BASE Entertainment Indonesia YouTube channel since early August 2025. The film also marks the directorial debut of Ronny Gani, a local talent with international experience.

“We need facilitation and promotional support to signal that Indonesian animated films are a special choice for domestic audiences. The animation industry cannot rely on one or two films alone; we must consistently produce high-quality animated films,” Shanty Harmayn added.
