Chinese New Year Festival Press Release: Launch of the National Chinese New Year 2026 Logo — A Symbol of Unity in Indonesia’s Diversity

Jakarta, 28 January, 2026 – The government has officially launched the logo for the event “National Chinese New Year 2026: Harmony of Nusantara Chinese New Year” as a symbol of an inclusive Chinese New Year celebration that is protective and represents the spirit of Indonesian nationhood. This logo is designed as a warm, humanistic, serene, and dignified visual language, while simultaneously radiating optimism and reflection on the nation’s journey through diversity.

Deputy Minister of Creative Economy, Irene Umar, serving as Chairperson of the National Chinese New Year 2026 Committee, presented the main philosophy of the logo during the Launch of the National Chinese New Year 2026 Logo at the Auditorium of the Bureau for Communication, Jakarta, on Wednesday (January 28, 2026).

Chairperson of the National Chinese New Year 2026 Committee, Irene Umar, stated that the presence of this logo strongly symbolizes Indonesia, integrating its cultures and diversity into the principle of Bhinneka Tunggal Ika.

“Starting with the red and white on the horse’s mane to remind that the crown represents the national flag, followed by the flame symbol in the eyes as a form of spirit and a reminder that this is the Year of the Fire Horse. In addition, it also serves as a reminder that every step we take does not forget our culture and humanity,” she said on Wednesday (January 28, 2026) at the Auditorium of the Bureau for Communication, Jakarta.

The main philosophy of the logo is realized through several symbolic elements. The red and white on the horse’s mane represents the nation’s identity as a crown in every movement and leap toward the future. The ring in the mouth symbolizes control over words, wisdom in speech, and a commitment to unite rather than divide. Meanwhile, the fiery eyes represent spirit, courage, inner focus, and the energy of the Fire Horse that drives change.

On the legs, there is a raised batik flower symbolizing the nation’s forward steps without abandoning cultural and human values. The ring on the leg emphasizes that great strength must move with awareness, ethics, and shared purpose. The bamboo shoot batik motif represents growth, hope, and the nation’s journey—rooted strongly yet continuously reaching upward.

The horse’s split tail represents harmonious duality: tradition and modernity, local and global, past and future, embodying the spirit of Bhinneka Tunggal Ika. Meanwhile, the banji batik motif symbolizes abundant happiness, the continuity of life, spirituality, and the balance between the material and the inner world.

Deputy Chairperson of the National Chinese New Year 2026 Committee, Veronica Tan, expressed that the National Chinese New Year serves as a symbol of togetherness with family, not merely a celebration.

“It is hoped that the National Chinese New Year ‘Harmony of Nusantara’ will also become a moment of returning home in unity, where we come together as one,” she said.

Deputy Chairperson of the National Economic Council (DEN) and Chairperson of the Advisory Board of the National Chinese New Year Committee, Mari Elka Pangestu, stated that Indonesia is very open to cultural integration with the Chinese community, which can be felt in our daily lives.

“So, there is a great deal of cultural integration in our daily lives. For those of us of Chinese descent, we may have been celebrating Chinese New Year since childhood, and there are indeed rituals that are not only religious but also cultural,” she explained.

Head of the Presidential Staff Office (KSP) and Advisor to the National Chinese New Year Committee, Muhammad Qodari, stated that this event reflects the government’s commitment to safeguarding the cultural and religious diversity of Indonesian citizens.

“This event indeed reaffirms our national and civic commitment, showing that cultural and religious diversity forms the foundation of our unity, as well as a social strength that we must uphold together,” he said.

The overarching theme “Harmony of Nusantara Chinese New Year” is realized through the 2026 Chinese New Year Festival, presented as a Lunar New Year festival based on the integration of Nusantara arts, traditions, and culinary heritage. The celebration combines tradition, modern creativity, entrepreneurship, and cross-generational participation, creating an inclusive public space experience for all members of society.

The use of the logo is encouraged for educational, social, cultural, tourism promotion, creative economy, and public activities that reinforce values of brotherhood, tolerance, and optimism. With this spirit, the 2026 National Chinese New Year is expected to be a celebration that soothes, warms, and unites all elements of the nation.
