Creative Economy Minister Invites OACPS to Global Creative Economy Conference to Strengthen Diplomacy

Jakarta, 30 October 2025 – Minister of Creative Economy Teuku Riefky Harsya received an audience from the Organisation of African, Caribbean and Pacific States (OACPS). The meeting marked an initial momentum to strengthen collaboration between Indonesia and OACPS member countries in the creative economy sector.

Menteri Ekonomi Kreatif, Teuku Riefky Harsya, menerima audiensi dari The Organisation of African, Caribbean and Pacific States (OACPS), Jakarta, Kamis (30/10/2025).

OACPS is a development organization established under the Georgetown Agreement (1975) and plays an important role in strengthening cross-regional economic and development cooperation, including in the creative economy. During the meeting, Minister Teuku Riefky invited OACPS to attend the World Conference on Creative Economy (WCCE) 2026 to be held in Indonesia.

“As the country that initiated the World Conference on Creative Economy in 2018, we are committed to continuing to promote meaningful global cooperation in the creative economy. We hope OACPS’ participation in WCCE 2026 will open concrete opportunities for sustainable development partnerships between Indonesia and OACPS member countries,” said Minister Teuku Riefky during the meeting at the Ministry of Creative Economy office in Jakarta on Thursday, 30 October 2025.

The Minister also highlighted the increase in foreign investment in Indonesia’s creative economy sector, which is currently dominated by the application, fashion, craft, and culinary subsectors. This potential is considered increasingly promising given that OACPS consists of 79 member countries across Africa, the Caribbean, and the Pacific, which could drive higher investment, create new jobs, and expand Indonesia’s creative product exports to global markets.

“The greater the investment inflow, the greater the opportunities for job creation and increased exports of creative products. Foreign investors are not only looking at local market potential, but are also positioning Indonesia as a production base for regional and global markets,” he explained.

Furthermore, Minister Teuku Riefky emphasized that 80 percent of the ministry’s focus is directed toward accelerating creative economy development, while the remaining 20 percent is allocated to the incubation stage. This acceleration strategy is carried out through curation, business scaling, intellectual property commercialization, as well as promotion and the strengthening of global networks.

“We want Indonesia’s creative economy players not only to grow, but also to accelerate. Through curation-based acceleration, IP commercialization, and global promotion, local creative economy players can evolve from national champions into global champions,” he said.

In line with the spirit of the Luanda Declaration (2022) and the Nairobi Declaration (2019), Indonesia, through the Ministry of Creative Economy, also supports creative economy capacity building in OACPS countries through South–South Cooperation and the World Conference on Creative Economy.

OACPS Secretary-General Moussa Saleh Batraki stated that the meeting was part of his series of visits to Indonesia, particularly in relation to the International Workshop on Creative Economy in Bali. He also expressed appreciation for Indonesia’s initiative in establishing a dedicated ministry for the creative economy, which he viewed as a strong commitment not widely adopted by other countries.

“We highly appreciate Indonesia’s step in having a dedicated ministry for the creative economy, something that not many countries have. In addition to discussions, our visit also aims to invite the Ministry of Creative Economy of Indonesia to attend the Summit of OACPS Heads of State and Government next year,” said Moussa Saleh Batraki.
