Creative Economy Ministry–Walubi Collaboration Set to Support the Success of National Vesak 2026

Jakarta, 30 April 2026 – The Ministry of Creative Economy / Creative Economy Agency (Ekraf) is set to collaborate with the Indonesian Buddhists Association (Walubi) to support the successful implementation of the 2026 National Vesak celebration series at Borobudur Temple. This synergy is projected to stimulate the creative economy at the regional level.

Minister of Creative Economy, Teuku Riefky Harsya, received an audience with representatives of the Indonesian Buddhists Association (Walubi) at the Ministry of Creative Economy Office in Jakarta on Thursday (30/4/2026).

Minister Teuku Riefky Harsya stated that the shared commitment can begin with digital promotion, strengthening the ecosystem in special economic zones, and optimizing the multiplier effect of the 2026 National Vesak celebration series.

“The role of the Ministry of Creative Economy is certainly to support Intellectual Property (IP)-based events such as the National Vesak celebration, where the IP carries commercialization impact with a multiplier effect. This aligns with the ministry’s Key Performance Index (KPI) and the mandate of President Prabowo regarding GDP growth, exports, employment, and investment,” said the Minister at the Ministry’s office on Thursday (30/4).

Teuku Riefky also emphasized the importance of collaboration with content creators and the utilization of social media to expand the promotional reach of major religious celebrations at Borobudur Temple.

“This will amplify the exposure of this national-scale event, both domestically and internationally. Coordination with the Ministry’s public relations team can also help strengthen the positioning of this IP-based event through media publications across each stage of the series,” he added.

The Vesak celebration series will take place throughout May 2026, beginning with the cleaning of Heroes’ Cemeteries across Indonesia (3 May), social health services (23–24 May), a procession from Mendut Temple to Borobudur Temple followed by the release of peace lanterns (31 May), along with several other engaging activities.

We are targeting around 250,000 visitors from around the world to witness the event. Moreover, the National Vesak celebration will be a valuable moment with economic impact for the Magelang region and its surroundings,” said Vice Chairperson of the Committee, Karuna Murdaya.

Karuna Murdaya also explained that the event focuses not only on religious aspects but also delivers direct benefits to local communities. Activities will be held simultaneously in 55 cities across 21 provinces, including social services and free healthcare initiatives targeting up to 10,000 beneficiaries.
