Deputy Minister Advocates for Data Center to Establish a Clear Roadmap for Indonesian Cinema

Jakarta, January 14, 2025 – Deputy Minister of Creative Economy/Deputy Head of the Creative Economy Agency Irene Umar emphasized the need for a dedicated data center to develop a clearer and more structured roadmap for Indonesia’s film industry. She expressed hope that the country’s film ecosystem would continue to nurture creative spaces while enhancing quality, not only in production but also in distribution.

“Indonesia often measures a film’s success by ticket sales alone. We need a centralized data center to encourage filmmakers and the public to support this creative economy subsector. A comprehensive data framework would allow for measurable insights from multiple perspectives. Such synergy is essential to establishing clear market regulations, which will lead to a solid roadmap and actionable follow-ups,” stated Deputy Minister Irene during an audience meeting with PT Rangkai Kreativitas Indonesia at the Sapta Pesona Building, Jakarta, on Tuesday, January 14, 2025.

She added that the government is committed to sustaining and strengthening the film ecosystem from local to global stages. This ongoing effort is rooted in a data-driven and market-based approach to ensure the sector contributes to the national economy.

“Films representing Indonesia at international festivals should uphold the nation’s good name and reflect our culture. Participation in such festivals will enhance the visibility and recognition of Indonesia’s national films,” she explained.

During the meeting, PT Rangkai Kreativitas Indonesia highlighted that Indonesia already possesses a wealth of film assets. For 2025, the focus should be directed toward technological advancements and digitalization, particularly in areas like global film distribution, integrated cinema chains, copyright tracking, and real-time analytics systems.

“Films that succeed in Indonesia may not necessarily perform well overseas. A strong ecosystem must address production, distribution, exhibition, archiving, education, and audience appreciation. We are prepared to design the Indonesian Film Universe Data System, covering aspects such as workforce, institutions, infrastructure, activities, audience engagement, and the value of creative work utilization,” explained Redemptus Rangga Raditya, CEO of PT Rangkai Kreativitas Indonesia.

The meeting was also attended by Agustini Rahayu (Deputy for Media Creativity at the Ministry of Creative Economy), Donny Setiawan (Acting Director for Film, Animation, and Studios at the Ministry of Creative Economy), and Nobel Parmadean (Head of Marketing and Commercialization Sub-directorate at the Ministry of Creative Economy).
