Jakarta, January 15, 2025 – Who isn’t familiar with PlayStation? The globally renowned gaming console brand is a household name. Deputy Minister of Creative Economy/Deputy Head of the Creative Economy Agency, Irene Umar, seized the opportunity to support Indonesia's local game industry during an audience with PlayStation's distributor.
“This is a golden opportunity for us to introduce Indonesia’s local games. Collaborating with PlayStation’s distributor will open new avenues for Indonesian games to reach a wider audience,” stated Deputy Minister Irene during the audience at the Sapta Pesona Building, Central Jakarta, on Wednesday, January 15, 2025.
Deputy Minister of Creative Economy Irene was accompanied by Muhammad Neil El Himam (Deputy for Digital and Technology Creativity) and representatives from the Directorate of Games at the Ministry of Creative Economy. From PlayStation’s distributor, Fredy Lo (Head of PlayStation Division at PT Sony Indonesia) and Ryan Ekasantosa (Sales Team, Sony Indonesia) were present.
Deputy Minister of Creative Economy Irene noted that this meeting could pave the way for strategic collaboration with PlayStation’s distributor to elevate Indonesia’s local game industry. Through this partnership, high-quality local games could gain broader promotion and open new opportunities for local developers to enter international markets.
Moreover, Deputy Minister of Creative Economy Irene highlighted the potential to expand game corners in airports and hotels, offering the public a more enjoyable and accessible local gaming experience.
“We want to introduce Indonesian games to a broader audience. With PlayStation's support, we can strengthen Indonesia’s gaming ecosystem. Unfortunately, many people still assume that Indonesian-made games are foreign products,” said Deputy Minister of Creative Economy Irene.
“That’s why we plan to create game corners in hotels and airports, making it easier for people to access and enjoy local Indonesian games, which are developing and have great potential,” she added.
PlayStation’s distributor welcomed the collaboration with the Ministry of Creative Economy. Fredy Lo, Head of the PlayStation Division at PT Sony Indonesia, expressed plans to broaden the promotion of local games by installing PlayStation units in hotels and airports across Indonesia.
“We discussed several potential collaborations between Sony Indonesia and the Ministry of Creative Economy to enhance the exposure of local game developers. They’ve achieved excellent results, but unfortunately, many are not yet widely recognized domestically and are better known abroad,” stated Fredy Lo.
