Deputy Minister Encourages Creative Collaboration at Plaza Indonesia Next Gen Fest and Road to IdeaFest 2025

Jakarta, February 26, 2025 – Deputy Minister of Creative Economy/Deputy Head of Creative Economy Agency, Irene Umar, emphasized the importance of collaboration in developing a culture-based creative economy. She conveyed this message while speaking at the Plaza Indonesia Next Gen Fest and Road to IdeaFest 2025, held at Ganara Art Space, Plaza Indonesia, Wednesday, February 26, 2025.

On this occasion, Deputy Minister of Creative Economy Irene stated that the Ministry of Creative Economy/Creative Economy Agency continues to open opportunities for collaboration as part of culture-driven creative movements.

“Plaza Indonesia Next Gen Fest and Road to IdeaFest 2025 is an annual forum that invites young generations to transform in line with the development of industries, trends, and culture. This event serves as a platform for ideas, creativity, innovation, and collaboration as a contribution to Indonesia’s creative industry,” said Irene.

Meanwhile, IdeaFest has been widely recognized as a festival of creativity and innovation that empowers creative industry players to generate insights, synergy, and new innovation.

In a session entitled How Does Culture Inspire Creative Movements? Deputy Minister of Creative Economy Irene highlighted the role of the creative economy as the new engine of growth in introducing Indonesian culture.

“The initiatives carried out by the Ministry of Creative Economy/Creative Economy Agency include mapping to build a data-based creative ecosystem. Together with creative economy fighters and communities, we try to identify problems and find solutions together. Many creative players need space for discussion and dialogue like this,” said Irene.

Irene further added that creativity can be a tool to introduce Indonesian culture, as implemented in various programs such as Reading Corners at Taman Mini Indonesia Indah (TMII), Emak-Emak Matic, support for the animated film Jumbo, Pikachu Berbatik, as well as cross-ministerial and inter-agency collaborations.

“Creativity can be a tool to tell stories of forgotten culture. Indonesia’s strength is the creative population. The Ministry of Creative Economy/Creative Economy Agency continuously strives to explore local culture through available creative platforms. The hope is that more collaborations will continue to be born for the nation. This is things that we can do for the nations,” she added.

Supporting Irene’s statement, IdeaFest Co-Chair, Ben Soebiakto, emphasized that collaboration is the main key in advancing the creative economy.

“The most important keyword is collaboration to move forward together. The current state of the creative economy carries both hope and major transition with the support of technology as part of the platforms we use. Indonesians are remarkable not only for their potential and culture, but also for their ability to adopt technology. From here, we can present local cultural content to become global inspiration,” he said.

Meanwhile, Deputy Chief Marketing Officer of Plaza Indonesia, Zamri Mamat, added that Plaza Indonesia continues to seek collaborators to introduce less-known cultures or work with trending creators to stay relevant for younger generations.

“We also continue to seek collaborators to introduce forgotten cultures, or to collaborate with trending creators so that there is relevance with young audiences. Plaza Indonesia is always in search of authentic creativity that can showcase engaging content from local culture,” Zamri stated.

Plaza Indonesia Next Gen Fest and Road to IdeaFest 2025 is expected to serve as a platform to encourage the growth of creativity and foster positive cross-generational collaboration in support of the development of Indonesia’s creative economy.
