Jakarta, June 5, 2026 – Deputy Minister for Creative Economy/Deputy Head of the Creative Economy Agency, Irene Umar, reaffirmed the government's commitment to supporting local creators in developing their works. The Ministry of Creative Economy is positioned as a strategic enabler and connector, ready to elevate Indonesia’s creative industry to the global stage.
Deputy Minister for Creative Economy, Irene Umar, speaks at the KindFolc Talks Session held at Sarinah, Jakarta, Friday (June 5, 2026).
"There are three main factors that often hinder creative works from transforming into economic products: the lack of collaboration between creators and marketers, a rigid attachment to one's own ideas without a willingness to adapt, and limited courage to expand into global markets through digital technology. The greatest challenge is changing creators’ mindsets so they view their works not merely as creations, but as Intellectual Property (IP) assets with high economic value," said the Deputy Minister during the KindFolc Talks Session at Sarinah, Jakarta, on Friday (June 5).
The discussion, themed From Creative Practice to Creative Economy, focused on strategies for converting personal ideas into viable business opportunities that are adaptive to market demands. She emphasized that such collaboration is crucial in creating an inclusive space where creative practitioners can build sustainable synergies.
"The primary mindset every creator should have is to simply get started (just do it), without worrying too much about following trends. You may very well become the trendsetter yourself. Once you begin, the next step is to manage that creativity as a long-term Intellectual Property asset and strengthen business management to ensure sustainability," the Deputy Minister added.

KindFolc Vol. 02 is a community-based creative market festival carrying the tagline A Home for Art Folk. This edition brings together 34 local creative tenants to showcase their best works. Sara Tirtohadiguno, Co-Founder of KindFolc, explained that the event was designed as a platform for knowledge exchange as well as an exhibition space for original creative works.
"Through this second volume, we want to ensure that the ecosystem remains welcoming, supportive, and capable of providing market access for local creators, especially emerging talents from different generations," said Sara.
KindFolc Vol. 02 builds upon the success of its inaugural edition held in March. This time, the discussion session was presented in a more interactive talk-show format attended by 25 participants, featuring key speakers including illustrator Popomangun and Wira Dillon, Chairman of the Indonesian Game Developers Association (APIBGI).
