Deputy Minister of Creative Economy Appears as Special Guest Anchor on Metro Xinwen to Expand Creative Economy Literacy

Jakarta, 21 November 2025 — Deputy Minister of Creative Economy/Deputy Head of the Creative Economy Agency, Irene Umar, participated in a special program commemorating 25 years of Metro TV and 25 years of the Mandarin-language news program, Metro Xinwen. In this occasion, Deputy Minister Irene served as a guest anchor to broaden creative economy literacy and engage with diverse audiences.

Wakil Menteri Ekonomi Kreatif, Irene Umar, menjadi narasumber dalam rangkaian spesial peringatan 25 tahun Metro TV dan 25 tahun program berita berbahasa Mandarin, Metro Xinwen, Jakarta, Jumat (21/11/2025).

“Media like Metro Xinwen is not just a bridge, but a two-way dialogue channel between Indonesia and China. It not only delivers information but also opens new perspectives on creativity, innovation, and economic opportunities in Indonesia,” said Deputy Minister Irene on Friday, 21 November 2025.

Her appearance on the program is part of an effort to expand the dissemination of creative economy information through Mandarin-language media, broadcast from Metro TV Studio 3. Metro TV has consistently highlighted programs and policies of the Ministry of Creative Economy.

Through its platforms, Metro Xinwen plays a pivotal role in delivering national and international information to the Chinese community in Indonesia. The 25-year anniversary provides a strategic opportunity to strengthen communication regarding Indonesia’s creative economy ecosystem.

Deputy Minister Irene also recognized Metro Xinwen as a model for successfully leveraging niche markets in the media industry. By targeting Mandarin-speaking audiences and presenting relevant content, the program demonstrates that diversity can be both a cultural asset and an inclusive, sustainable business model.

“Serving specific audience segments can build loyalty and unlock untapped market potential,” added Deputy Minister Irene.

During an interview with the host, she discussed developments in creative economy subsectors and opportunities for collaboration between Indonesian and Chinese creators. She emphasized that proficiency in Mandarin is key to accessing China’s rapidly growing creative industries, including gaming, animation, film, and creative technology.

Furthermore, Deputy Minister Irene noted that Chinese culture has long been an integral part of Indonesia’s creative landscape. The historical interaction between Indonesia and the Chinese community enriches culinary arts, design, performing arts, and fashion. Elements such as fusion cuisine, Oriental motifs, lion dance, and Chinatown aesthetics can inspire globally competitive intellectual property (IP).

This diversity is considered a creative asset that can produce works aligned with global market dynamics, supporting the journey toward Indonesia Emas 2045.

Closing her remarks, Deputy Minister Irene highlighted that Metro Xinwen’s 25-year journey has positioned it as a bridge of friendship between Indonesia and China.
