“Cyberbullying is real and must be addressed together. When it happens, we must know what to do next. This film teaches the proper healing process, not just a vacation, but techniques and deep approaches. Even cyberspace can be part of the solution if it fosters healthy interactions. That is why the role of teachers, parents, and digital communities is so important,” said Deputy Minister Irene after the special screening of Cyberbullying on Wednesday, July 2, 2025.

Deputy Minister Irene also appreciated the film as a work that is not only touching but also relevant. She emphasized that this work is important to raise public awareness.

“This film delivers a strong and moving message about empathy, courage, and digital literacy. Works like this are important because they can educate while also inspiring the public to take action. This aligns with the vision of the Ministry of Creative Economy in supporting an impactful creative ecosystem,” she stated.

In addition, Deputy Minister Irene added that the Ministry of Creative Economy continues to promote the strengthening of the national film ecosystem, which is a strategic sector in the creative economy. This effort is carried out through its active role as a bridge between filmmakers and strategic partners.

“Our hope is that more filmmakers and production houses can present quality works, strengthen the industry, and bring Indonesian stories to the global stage. For that, collaboration is key—whether between ministries, with creative communities, or with industry players,” added Deputy Minister Irene.

At the same event, Deputy Minister of Women’s Empowerment and Child Protection, Veronica Tan, who also attended the screening, stressed that the issue of cyberbullying is a collective responsibility. She said that all parties, from home to the state, must ensure a healthy environment for the younger generation.

“Cyberbullying is not only the responsibility of teachers or parents, but a shared responsibility. The most important thing is to build children’s resilience from an early age and ensure that the recovery process takes place with the support of all parties—especially the family and the closest environment,” said Deputy Minister Veronica Tan.

Cyberbullying tells the story of Neira Kanjera (13), an outstanding junior high school student whose life changes drastically due to a viral video accusing her of inappropriate behavior.

Public outrage leaves Neira devastated, prompting her to move to her grandfather’s house in the suburbs. There, she slowly recovers by forming a small community and learning to trust herself again, until she finally dares to face her past.

This film serves as a reminder of the importance of building the psychological resilience of the younger generation and creating a more empathetic digital space. The Ministry of Creative Economy believes that creative works like this have the power to open dialogue, foster empathy, and encourage collective action.
