Deputy Minister of Creative Economy Attends Ben’s Backyard Tahilalats 10th Anniversary, Encourages Local IP to Level Up through Collaboration

South Tangerang, 13 December 2025 — As part of efforts to encourage local Intellectual Property (IP) to move up the value chain, Deputy Minister of Creative Economy / Deputy Head of the Creative Economy Agency Irene Umar officially opened the 10th anniversary celebration of the local comic IP Tahilalats at Bintaro Jaya Xchange Mall on Saturday, 13 December 2025. The presence of a large-scale immersive installation of a local IP in a public space is considered an important breakthrough, signaling that Indonesian IP is increasingly trusted to stand alongside global IP and expand its market reach.

Wakil Menteri Ekonomi Kreatif, Irene Umar, membuka secara resmi perayaan satu dekade IP komik lokal "Tahilalats" di Bintaro Jaya Xchange Mall, Tangerang Selatan, Sabtu (13/12/2025).

“The journey of Tahilalats has been a long one, and every time we meet, there is always a new innovation. Large-scale installations in public spaces like this are usually filled by foreign IPs, but today, for the first time, a local IP has been trusted with this space. This is not merely a celebration, but also a step to expand market reach and serve as an example for other local IPs to boldly level up,” said the Deputy Minister of Creative Economy.

The Deputy Minister expressed appreciation for cross-ecosystem synergy that brings local IP into strategic public spaces such as shopping malls. According to her, the collaboration between the government, public space managers, IP creators, creative studios, communities, and academic elements in this event demonstrates the implementation of a hexahelix approach in developing an IP-based creative economy.

As part of the opening ceremony of Ben’s Backyard Tahilalats 10th Anniversary, an experiential area was presented, transforming the comic universe into a real-world experience, along with a pop-up store showcasing a variety of official merchandise such as apparel and other creative products. Through this experiential approach, visitors are invited to interact directly with Tahilalats characters, enjoy large-scale visual installations, and participate in various creative activities held from 12 December 2025 to 18 January 2026, accompanying the Christmas and New Year holiday season.

This program is also part of Bintaro Jaya Xchange Mall’s year-end series of events, which adopts the concept of an inclusive, safe, and family-friendly space for play and gathering.

Manager of Bintaro Jaya Xchange Mall Unit, Garry Misnan, stated that the presence of local IP through immersive installations is an effort to provide new experiences for visitors, while also strengthening the role of shopping malls as public spaces that support the creative economy ecosystem.

Meanwhile, Co-Founder & Managing Director of Mahavisual, Fakhruddin Arrazi, emphasized that cross-sector collaboration is key to delivering visual innovation and strengthening the positioning of local IP so it can compete and grow within the creative industry.

Tahilalats creator Nurfadli Mursyid conveyed that the 10th anniversary celebration serves as a moment of reflection as well as a shared celebration, not only for all parties involved in the development of Tahilalats, but also for fans who have grown together with the IP.

“These ten years are a reflection of the process of building Tahilalats consistently and sustainably, together with the ecosystem and fans who have continuously accompanied this journey,” said Nurfadli.

The Ministry of Creative Economy views collaborations such as this as a concrete example of experiential IP-based local IP development that can expand creative economic value, strengthen competitiveness, and encourage local IP to become the new engine of growth.
