Jakarta, May 9, 2026 – Deputy Minister of Creative Economy/Deputy Head of the Creative Economy Agency, Irene Umar, met with the Ubud Royal Family in Gianyar, Bali, on Saturday (9/5). The initiative aims to integrate historical values and local traditions with national policies in order to position local wisdom as the foundation of a globally competitive creative industry.

Irene Umar stated that the Tjokorda Family of Puri Ubud plays an important role in preserving the spirit of art and culture in Bali.
“Through this meeting, we want to ensure that traditional values can collaborate with creative economy innovation to create tangible impacts for society without leaving behind cultural roots,” said Deputy Minister of Creative Economy Irene Umar in Bali on Saturday (9/5).
During the meeting, the Deputy Minister held discussions with figures from Puri Ubud regarding the role of the royal family in supporting the development of dance, fine arts, and ritual activities that have become key attractions of the area. The Ministry of Creative Economy also mapped the management of culture-based hospitality and sustainable tourism in Ubud as a model for the development of national creative destinations rooted in modern cultural preservation.

“We see Puri Ubud not only as a historical center, but also as a symbol of the active preservation of Balinese culture. Their contribution in connecting local and international artists is key to positioning Ubud as a global arts destination, which we will strengthen through ministerial policies to create an inclusive creative ecosystem,” added the Deputy Minister.
The meeting also discussed the contribution of the Ubud Royal Family to cultural tourism and its impact on strengthening the region’s creative economy. The discussion focused on the protection of cultural assets to generate high economic value, as well as ministry support for local artists within the global network established by the royal family.
“We are very pleased with the Deputy Minister’s visit and hope that support from the Ministry of Creative Economy can strengthen the creative ecosystem in our area, while also opening wider opportunities for local artists to introduce the richness of our traditions to the international community,” said the King of Ubud, Tjokorda Gde Putra Sukawati.
