Jakarta, 20 January 2026 – The Deputy Minister of Creative Economy / Deputy Head of the Creative Economy Agency, Irene Umar, received a visit from Ali Andika Wardana, Deputy Chief of Mission (DCM) of the Embassy of the Republic of Indonesia (KBRI) in Seoul, at the Ministry of Creative Economy office in Jakarta on Tuesday (20/1). The meeting marked an initial step toward aligning visions and strategies to strengthen sustainable creative economy cooperation between Indonesia and South Korea.

“Consistent and continuous discussions with partners and agencies in Korea are key to building mutually beneficial and sustainable collaboration, while also addressing differences in approach and culture,” said Deputy Minister Irene Umar.
During the meeting, Deputy Minister Irene outlined the direction of cooperation development, covering cross-subsector collaboration within the creative economy, ranging from creative content, film and audiovisual, music, to talent development. The Government of Indonesia encourages collaboration models that go beyond cultural promotion and are oriented toward economic value creation, co-production, and the enhancement of Indonesian creative human resource capacity.

“We want this cooperation to go beyond cultural exchange and move toward commercially oriented collaboration, including co-production, talent development, and the creation of job opportunities for Indonesian creative professionals,” Deputy Minister Irene Umar emphasized.
She also highlighted the importance of involving local talent in every activity and program related to the Korean Wave in Indonesia. Such involvement includes training, recruitment, and performance opportunities for Indonesian creators, musicians, dancers, and artists. According to her, a collaborative approach rooted in local communities will further strengthen the national creative economy ecosystem.

Meanwhile, DCM of the Indonesian Embassy in Seoul Ali Andika Wardana welcomed the initiative of the Ministry of Creative Economy to strengthen synergy with South Korea. He reaffirmed the Embassy’s commitment to serving as a connector and facilitator for cooperation between creative industry stakeholders in both countries.
“The Indonesian Embassy in Seoul is ready to support and facilitate Indonesia–Korea creative economy collaboration initiatives, including by connecting ministries, agencies, industry players, and creative communities in South Korea,” said Ali Andika Wardana.

Through this meeting, the Ministry of Creative Economy and the Indonesian Embassy in Seoul agreed to strengthen coordination and communication going forward, ensuring that various cooperation opportunities can be followed up concretely and deliver tangible benefits for the global development of Indonesia’s creative economy.
