Jakarta, 27 August 2025 – Deputy Minister of the Ministry of Creative Economy/Creative Economy Agency Irene Umar highlighted the primary role of Intellectual Property (IP) as a valuable asset to be developed and commercialized through collaboration with strategic partners to reach global markets. According to Deputy Minister of Creative Economy Irene, IP has high business potential.
Wakil Menteri Ekonomi Kreatif, Irene Umar, menjadi salah satu narasumber dalam talkshow Strategies for the Protection and Settlement of Trademark and Patent Disputes in the Global Era: National and International Perspectives pada Indonesia Retail Summit & Expo 2025, Jakarta, Rabu (27/08/2025).
“There are 17 subsectors within the creative economy that provide value and impact to an IP. To establish an IP, there must be a storyline and demand. Let us take the example of the Jumbo animation IP, which developed a derivative product in the form of Jumbo notebooks through collaboration with Kiky Stationery. This is concrete evidence of synergy among creative economy subsectors such as animation and publishing,” said Deputy Minister of Creative Economy Irene during the talk show Strategies for the Protection and Settlement of Trademark and Patent Disputes in the Global Era: National and International Perspectives at the Indonesia Retail Summit & Expo 2025 at Swissotel Jakarta, PIK Avenue, on Wednesday, 27 August 2025.
The role of IP in driving business innovation in Indonesia lies in its ability to stimulate the emergence of more compelling creative products and services with high economic potential. Deputy Minister of Creative Economy Irene added that each local IP can provide a strong identity for creative products, enabling a business or company to possess differentiation compared to other global enterprises.

“One of the Ministry of Creative Economy/Creative Economy Agency’s functions is to socialize to all business players in Indonesia the importance of utilizing IP, including as a marketing strategy. The most important aspect is the relevance of IP to a brand. Creativity in Indonesia is endless, with continuous inspiration that can be discovered everywhere,” expressed Deputy Minister of Creative Economy Irene, accompanied by Director of Market System Development and Institutional Relations, Radi Manggala.
Director General of Intellectual Property at the Ministry of Law, Razilu, who also served as a speaker in this discussion, emphasized the urgency of IP as a foundational element that must be registered as intellectual property rights to provide validation for a brand or business.
“In essence, the creative economy is MSMEs combined with economically valuable intellectual property. To strengthen awareness of IP growth, we must register the IP we own to enhance the business performance of each company,” explained Razilu.
