Jakarta, 8 February 2026 – Deputy Minister of Creative Economy/Deputy Head of the Creative Economy Agency (BEKRAF), Irene Umar, attended the Opening Ceremony of Garena Game Jam 3 held at BINUS University, Jakarta, on Sunday (8/2). The presence of the Deputy Minister underscores the government’s commitment to fostering the growth of digital talent and strengthening the national game industry ecosystem.
Deputy Minister of Creative Economy, Irene Umar, delivered a speech at the Opening Ceremony of Garena Game Jam 3 at BINUS University, Jakarta, on Sunday (8/2/2026).
Garena Game Jam 3 is a game development competition organized by Garena Indonesia as a platform for students, university graduates, and recent graduates to hone their skills, collaborate, and build industry networks. Under the slogan “Reinvent the Game,” the competition took place from 6–8 February 2026 at BINUS University Jakarta. Participants were challenged to develop an original game within 48 hours.
In her remarks, Deputy Minister of Creative Economy Irene Umar commended Garena Indonesia and BINUS University for their consistency in providing a collaborative space for young talents. She noted that Garena Game Jam 3 is a concrete example of a creative economy hexahelix collaboration, bringing together industry, academia, government, communities, media, and creative talent within a mutually reinforcing ecosystem.
“A game jam is not merely about creating prototypes, but a space to test ideas, build collaborations, and establish professional work habits from an early stage. This process lays the foundation for Indonesian game talents to be ready to enter and thrive in the industry,” Irene said.
Irene added that game development requires a balance between creativity and market understanding. Through game jams, young talents learn to maintain their passion, analyze data, understand audiences, and create works that are both relevant and competitive in the global market.

From the government’s perspective, Irene emphasized that the Ministry of Creative Economy is committed to ensuring that game talents do not stop at the competition or prototype stage. Various development programs, including Gameseed, have been prepared to support them—from strengthening concepts and intellectual property, through incubation processes, to readiness for entry into the industry and market.
“The future of Indonesia’s game industry depends heavily on young talents who dare to try new things, collaborate, and continue learning. Treat every process, including game jams, as a step to grow and level up,” Irene concluded.
