“Our gaming industry ecosystem must be built with a layered scheme: from creation, production, promotion, distribution, and consumption, to conservation. We want to ensure all these phases move, stay interconnected, and generate real growth,” said the Deputy Minister of Creative Economy.
The Deputy Minister’s presence strengthened collaboration between the government and national gaming industry players. This is part of the Ministry’s strategic efforts to develop the gaming industry as the new engine of growth for Indonesia’s creative economy, while also opening more quality job opportunities for the younger generation.
Skilltree Talk Podcast is a regular discussion forum initiated by AGI to address strategic issues surrounding the development of the local gaming ecosystem—from upstream to downstream. In the creation stage, the Ministry of Creative Economy encourages the emergence of new ideas through the Global Game Jam and strengthens talent development through the Gameseed program and Google Play x Unity training. In terms of production and distribution, the Ministry also collaborates with various parties, including venture capital firms, angel investors, and has established the Indonesia Creative Content Fund (ICCF).
Deputy Minister Irene emphasized the importance of creating more independent studios across regions and supporting them in building competitive local IPs for the international market. “We cannot remain mere spectators in our own market forever. It is time for Indonesian game IPs to be recognized and played abroad,” stressed the Deputy Minister of Creative Economy.
To expand the consumption of local games, the Ministry of Creative Economy is preparing public space activations and will launch Indonesia Game Week in August 2025. On the policy side, the Ministry of Creative Economy is also pushing for the revision of Presidential Regulation No. 19 of 2024 to accelerate the sustainable growth of the gaming industry.

Collaboration with AGI is an important part of this strategy. “We have collaborated on many programs: Global Game Jam, Games Station, Re(Kreasi) Lokal, and support for Gamescom and the Tokyo Game Show. Going forward, this collaboration will be further expanded and refined—from human resource development to financing facilitation,” stated the Deputy Minister of Creative Economy.
The Deputy Minister highlighted that the gaming industry is not only an economic opportunity but also a strategic space to create quality job opportunities for young people, particularly in technology, art, and digital content.
“Games are not just about entertainment. They are a cultural, economic, and generational expression force. This industry must become a new growth engine for Indonesia’s creative economy,” she concluded.

AGI President Shafiq Husein welcomed the Ministry’s commitment to strengthening the national gaming industry. “With the active involvement of the government, we are increasingly optimistic that Indonesia’s gaming ecosystem can grow rapidly, not only upstream but also downstream. The key is not just to make games, but also to ensure that local games have markets, funding, and sustainability,” said Shafiq.
With synergy between the government, industry, and community, Indonesia is expected not only to be a market but also a hub for creating world-class games.
