Jakarta, March 8, 2025 – Deputy Minister of Creative Economy/Deputy Head of the Creative Economy Agency Irene Umar highlighted Taman Mini Indonesia Indah (TMII) in Jakarta as a key collaborative space for the development of Indonesia’s creative economy. One of the essential values it embodies is the intertwining of culture and religious tolerance.

This was conveyed by Deputy Minister of Creative Economy Irene during her attendance at the Fangsheng ceremony at TMII on Saturday, March 8, 2025. Fangsheng is a religious tradition rooted in Buddhist teachings, involving the release and rescue of living beings as a reflection of universal compassion.
“This activity carries a profound meaning. In my meeting with the Minister of Religious Affairs, we reaffirmed that Indonesia is a nation that officially recognizes five religions. Therefore, religious tolerance is a crucial aspect in fostering peace. Today is a special moment as we witness two major religions coexisting and practicing their beliefs in harmony—especially during this holy month of Ramadan,” said Deputy Minister of Creative Economy Irene.

She further emphasized the ongoing collaboration between TMII and the Ministry of Creative Economy, particularly in supporting programs that promote interfaith harmony. Regarding today’s event, she explained that Fangsheng derives from two Chinese words: fang, meaning “to release,” and sheng, meaning “life.”
“All living beings in this world have the same right to live freely and in happiness. Therefore, the practice of Fangsheng serves as a reminder for all of us to value life more deeply and to uphold humanistic values,” stated Deputy Minister of Creative Economy Irene.
