Jakarta, June 1, 2025 – Deputy Minister of Creative Economy Irene Umar attended the 20th edition of the Jakarta International Java Jazz Festival held at JIExpo Kemayoran, Jakarta. Deputy Minister Irene praised the two-decade-long Java Jazz Festival for successfully building a music ecosystem that serves as a model for others.

“Java Jazz Festival is more than just a music event; it is a space for collaboration and creation that fuels the growth of Indonesia’s music ecosystem. It stands as a real example of how music can unite diversity and generate a significant economic impact,” said Deputy Minister Irene at the venue on Sunday, June 1, 2025.
Since it was first held in 2005, this internationally recognized music festival has consistently provided a stage for both legendary musicians and emerging talents from around the world. Carrying the theme Unleashing Harmony: A Joyful Celebration of Sound, the 2025 Java Jazz Festival features over 100 performances across more than 10 stages over three days, from May 30 to June 1, 2025.

The festival highlights the role of music as a unifying force, a form of cultural expression, and a way to share universal human values. Deputy Minister Irene praised the festival’s continued presence, recognizing it as an important part of the national music ecosystem and a key driver of the performing arts sub-sector of the creative economy.
On this occasion, she also emphasized the importance of integrated intercity and regional transportation in supporting international-scale events like the Java Jazz Festival. According to her, better connectivity can enhance broader participation and amplify the impact of the creative economy on a national scale.

“Being in the middle of this lively crowd made me realize the importance of having an integrated transportation system that connects cities and airports to support events like this. Ideally, other cities can adopt a similar approach so the national event calendar becomes more organized, efficient, and competitive at the international level,” said Deputy Minister Irene.
The Jakarta International Java Jazz Festival continues to serve as a prestigious showcase for both national and international musicians while acting as a catalyst for the growth of a performing arts-based creative economy.
