Jakarta, 5 November 2025 — Deputy Minister of Creative Economy/Deputy Head of the Creative Economy Agency Irene Umar received the BSMT Award from the Chinese Indonesian Association (PSMTI) in recognition of her contributions in elevating Indonesian creative works to the global stage. The award serves as a catalyst to strengthen strategic collaborations between the government and communities in building a more inclusive creative economy ecosystem.

“I take this award as a reminder that collaboration is our main fuel. With the support of networks like PSMTI, we can build a vibrant ecosystem where creativity, business, and sustainability reinforce one another,” said the Deputy Minister after receiving the BSMT Award at Autograph Tower, Jakarta, Wednesday (5/11).
The Deputy Minister emphasized that this award is dedicated to all creative economy fighters across Indonesia who continue to contribute to the national economy. She also encouraged creative workers and entrepreneurs to amplify cross-community and cross-industry collaboration.
“Our vision is clear: to establish the creative economy as the new engine of growth. It is not merely a slogan, but a concrete strategy toward a more competitive, self-reliant, and empowered Indonesia by 2045,” she stated.

During the event, the Deputy Minister and representatives of PSMTI held a closed meeting to explore opportunities for strategic collaboration. Discussions included the development of circular-economy initiatives driven by creativity, the utilization of public spaces for artists and MSMEs, and long-term partnership opportunities between communities and creative industry players.
PSMTI Secretary General Peng Suyoto affirmed that the award is presented to individuals who not only excel but also offer new direction for national progress through innovation and the creative economy.
“We see Ms. Irene as a figure who brings fresh momentum to Indonesia’s creative industries. She not only speaks about creative works but also about how creativity can become an economic force for the nation,” said Peng.

He emphasized that the Deputy Minister’s efforts in elevating local works to the global market demonstrate the high competitiveness of Indonesia’s creative economy.
“Phenomena such as Jumbo show how Indonesian creators can break into global markets and significantly elevate the country’s image. The creative economy has now become a new avenue of introducing Indonesia internationally—alongside cultural and sports diplomacy,” he added.
The BSMT Award consists of three categories: national posthumous figures, senior figures, and young generation figures. This year, the Deputy Minister was recognized for embodying the spirit of young innovators who build cross-sector collaboration and position creativity as a foundation for future economic growth.
