Yogyakarta, 14 April, 2026 – Deputy Minister of Creative Economy/Deputy Head of the Creative Economy Agency (Ekraf), Irene Umar, expressed appreciation for Seken Living as a successful example of a sustainable creative business. The statement was delivered during her visit to observe firsthand the implementation of sustainable design based on teak wood at the Seken Living Workshop in Yogyakarta.
Deputy Minister of Creative Economy, Irene Umar, conducted a visit to the Seken Living Workshop, which develops sustainable design based on teak wood, in Yogyakarta, on Tuesday (14/4/2026).
Seken Living is a local craft brand established in 2014, focusing on transforming reclaimed wood into aesthetic and functional products. It has grown into an integrated creative ecosystem that combines traditional craftsmanship with modern management to meet the demands of environmentally conscious markets.
“Seken Living is a tangible example of how creativity can give new life to wood waste, transforming it into world-class craft products. We highly appreciate the brand’s consistency in preserving the environmental ecosystem while empowering local artisans in Yogyakarta,” said the Deputy Minister on Tuesday (14/4).

The Deputy Minister emphasized that the Ministry of Creative Economy is committed to acting as an accelerator for local brands with a sustainability vision. Through collaboration with various stakeholders, including export financing support from Lembaga Pembiayaan Ekspor Indonesia (Indonesia Eximbank), which has been accessed by Seken Living, the government is optimistic that Indonesian craft products will become increasingly prominent in the global market.
“The synergy between creativity and financial support, such as from Indonesia Eximbank, is key to overcoming barriers in international markets. We want to ensure that products with sustainability narratives like these receive the recognition they deserve on the global stage, as the world is currently seeking environmentally friendly products,” she added.
Seken Living has developed five integrated business lines, including a recycled wood furniture showroom integrated with Nest Coffee & Donuts, the mindful eating concept at Sabin Cafe, recycled-structure accommodations at Uma Accommodation, rustic décor curation through its online store, and a futuristic resto-bar for private events at Stairs at Prawirotaman. This synergy reflects a tangible example of creative economy innovation that successfully integrates economic value with a sustainable lifestyle in harmony with nature.

In addition to regularly participating in domestic exhibitions, Seken Living has also expanded into international markets through prestigious events such as Maison & Objet in France, Salone del Mobile in Milan, and Shoppe Object in the United States. However, it is currently facing challenges related to increasingly limited access and opportunities to participate in international platforms.
“The presence of the Deputy Minister of Creative Economy brings encouragement to us. We hope the government will continue to support market access and digital promotion so that our recycled wood-based products with natural character can become more competitive. We also hope Seken Living can continue to be involved in various upcoming exhibitions and events,” said Ferryal, Founder of Seken Living.
The Ministry of Creative Economy reaffirmed the presence of the central government in ensuring that innovation based on local wisdom and environmental sustainability continues to serve as a driving force of the economy. This step strengthens the shared commitment to making the creative economy the new engine of national growth starting from the regions, in order to create tangible impacts on broader community welfare.
