Jakarta, July 16, 2025 — Deputy Minister of Creative Economy, Irene Umar, welcomed the potential of the narrative horror game Agni: Village of Calamity by local studio Separuh Interactive as a world-class Indonesian Intellectual Property (IP). This meeting was part of the Ministry’s strategy to promote Indonesia’s game industry as a sector of high economic value.

“What we support is not only the product, but also the creative process, the courage to tell stories, and the drive to develop strong and sustainable IP,” said the Deputy Minister of Creative Economy at Autograph Tower, Jakarta, Wednesday, July 16, 2025.
According to her, Agni is an example of an Indonesian indie game that not only carries cinematic strength but also addresses deep issues such as women’s trauma, with an artistic visual approach and strong local identity.

The Deputy Minister of Creative Economy added the importance of building an ecosystem that supports not only the final product but also the process and sustainability of the IP itself.
The Deputy Minister of Creative Economy also provided several strategic inputs, including creative activations such as a haunted house experience based on Agni’s storyline, as well as the potential for IP utilization across multiple platforms. She also opened the possibility of facilitating broader collaborations, including with brands, as long as these contribute to supporting the sustainability of the creative ecosystem.

“If we can provide support from the beginning and help bridge with both private and public sectors, it is very possible that this IP can grow into many other forms: films, graphics, merchandise, even exhibitions,” explained the Deputy Minister.
Separuh Interactive’s team explained that the development of this game was carried out independently, relying on local talent, including Indonesian artists, animators, and programmers whose skills continue to be sharpened. With an in-house approach and investment in talent, they aim to deliver a globally competitive product while also opening space for collaboration with other creative economy subsectors such as music, fashion, and film.
“What is costly today is not the technology, but empowerment. We want to build an ecosystem, not just one product,” said Surgadeva, Creative Director of Agni.

He added that several local musicians and composers have already been invited to collaborate on the soundtrack, and the team remains open to exploring cooperation with relevant brands and institutions.
Agni: Village of Calamity is scheduled for release in the third quarter of 2026 and will be available on PC and console platforms. The game tells the story of a child abduction investigator haunted by guilt and forced to face shifting realities. The hijab worn by the main character symbolizes self-control in confronting trauma and will play an important role in the non-linear storyline.

“We deeply appreciate the Ministry of Creative Economy for opening discussions, providing direction, and supporting local game developers like us. Even just being remembered and noticed already means a lot,” said Yudi Tukiaty, Business Growth Director of Separuh Interactive.
He added that the Agni IP is also being explored for potential commercial collaborations with local brands organically. “With the right support, we believe Indonesia’s game industry can grow as a pillar of the digital creative economy,” he concluded.
