Jakarta, January 20, 2025 — Irene Umar, Deputy Minister of Creative Economy/Deputy Head of the Creative Economy Agency, encourages the growth of local fashion as a form of personal identity that also contributes to the creative economy.

This statement was made by Deputy Minister of Creative Economy Irene when she welcomed a visit from IKAT Indonesia at the 10th Floor Meeting Room, Menara Merdeka Building, Jakarta, on Monday, January 20, 2025.
The meeting with the IKAT Indonesia team discussed projections on how office attire or uniforms can be mixed and matched while inspiring clothing styles suited for various activities, including work.
"We want to see a dominance of color choices and fabrics that remain comfortable for all-day wear. Uniforms should instill a sense of pride among workers, especially those in the civil service. Currently, we are also collaborating with several local brands to explore future partnerships," said Deputy Minister of Creative Economy Irene.

She also emphasized that workwear within the government environment should reflect the identity of each deputy. Special consideration should be given to important moments or formal events, particularly for field workers such as photographers and videographers.
During this meeting, the Deputy Minister of Creative Economy also introduced an incubation program for weavers in Toba who use natural dye materials.
"We must further encourage the creativity and innovation of local designers to create higher economic value and positively impact local communities. We could organize local fashion shows where the weavers themselves model the garments they have made," said Deputy Minister of Creative Economy Irene.

Meanwhile, IKAT Indonesia has always maintained a distinctive identity, inspiring fashion collections that showcase local designs, particularly those utilizing Indonesia’s traditional textiles such as ikat weaving, lurk, batik, socket, and more. IKAT Indonesia also offers a platform for learning soft skills related to entrepreneurship and self-development through the Jadi Gini Belajar Bersama (JGBB) program, which targets Millennials and Gen Z.
"We share the same mission to elevate Indonesia’s creative economy players to a higher level. It’s not just about sharing fashion techniques but also about understanding how to sell, or how designers can reach potential buyers in Indonesia. Today’s meeting goes beyond just presenting our work; it is an opportunity to nurture and support young talents, particularly in the fashion industry, so they can continue to grow," said Didiet Maulana, Founder of IKAT Indonesia.
The meeting was also attended by the Secretary General of the Ministry of Creative Economy, Dessy Ruhati, and the Deputy for Cultural Creativity and Design, Yuke Sri Rahayu.
