During the meeting, the Deputy Minister emphasized the strategic role of higher education institutions in opening avenues for cooperation, particularly through the development of international research-based academic networks.

“We understand how the supply chains of Indonesia and China can be integrated and then jointly compete in the global market. With the talent expertise and demographic strengths involved, each country must be able to identify international opportunities so that the creative economy remains a key space for creating quality jobs,” said Deputy Minister Irene Umar.

She expressed hope that the meeting would serve as an initial step toward building shared objectives between Indonesia and China in strengthening creative economy research and studies in collaboration with Fudan University. Such cooperation is expected to support evidence-based creative economy policymaking, grounded in data and statistics across the 17 creative economy subsectors.

“Indonesia has vast resources and significant advantages, therefore the Ministry of Creative Economy must design programs aligned with the direction of the national creative economy. One of these is the Emak-Emak Matic program, which equips housewives with an understanding of new technologies and trains them to become capable marketers (affiliators) who can start online businesses. This ensures that their capacity building and digital skills development are more targeted,” added Deputy Minister Irene Umar.

Fudan University is one of the leading research universities in Shanghai, China, established in 1905. According to the Times Higher Education (THE) World University Rankings 2025, Fudan University is ranked 36th globally. Through its Center for Southeast Asia & Common Market (SEACM), Fudan University actively promotes regional economic research, international cooperation, and academic exchanges in area studies and public policy.
