Jakarta, January 14, 2025 – Deputy Minister of Creative Economy/Deputy Head of the Creative Economy Agency, Irene Umar, expressed her desire to collaborate with Taman Mini Indonesia Indah (TMII) to develop strategic programs that position TMII as Indonesia’s cultural showcase.
During an audience at the Sapta Pesona Building, Central Jakarta, on Tuesday, January 14, 2025, Deputy Minister Irene emphasized the importance of providing strategic input for several TMII programs, including the Pokémon event, Desa Timun, Regional Pavilions, Craft Store, and Nusantara Food Court. The main goal of this collaboration is to integrate Indonesian culture into every program while preserving TMII’s identity as an iconic cultural landmark. With the Creative Economy Ministry’s involvement, TMII is expected to become more appealing to the public while harmonizing the 17 creative economy subsectors into innovative thematic concepts.
"This collaboration aims to integrate Indonesian culture and preserve TMII’s identity. Hopefully, with the touch of the Creative Economy Ministry, TMII can maintain its cultural essence. That’s why I suggest holding a special Pokémon Go event at TMII featuring batik," said Deputy Minister of Creative Economy Irene.
Muhammad Neil El Himam, Deputy for Digital Creativity and Technology, emphasized the potential for TMII to become a national branding icon for Indonesia, introducing the richness of Nusantara culture to the world. Through this strategic collaboration, TMII is expected to enhance its popularity and attract more visitors.
"It’s time to start positioning TMII as Indonesia’s national brand and cultural showcase. The focus should be on national branding, attracting foreign visitors to Indonesia through TMII," stated Deputy Neil El Himam.
Meanwhile, TMII President Director, Intan Ayu Kartika, confirmed TMII’s commitment to strategic collaboration with the Creative Economy Ministry to highlight and preserve Indonesian culture. Five key programs have been set as priorities for this year, marking a joint effort between TMII and the Ministry. This synergy is expected to make a tangible contribution to Indonesia’s cultural preservation and creative economic development.
"We have identified key initiatives for this year, and we’ve agreed on five main programs to be carried out together with the Ministry of Creative Economy. We believe this synergy will foster the emergence and preservation of Indonesian culture," stated Intan Ayu Kartika.
Eric Lesmana, TMII’s Product Development Manager, welcomed the collaboration, considering it a strategic breakthrough. By combining cultural strengths, TMII is ready to launch innovative programs such as TMII Photography, Craft SMEs, Culinary Experiences, and more. These initiatives align with the 17 creative economy subsectors and will strengthen TMII’s identity as a cultural icon.
"It’s great to have this collaboration with the Ministry. I hope it continues, as the potential is enormous. It’s time for TMII to return to its cultural roots," said Eric Lesmana.
