Jakarta, May 14, 2026 – The Ministry of Creative Economy / Creative Economy Agency (Ekraf) is exploring strategic collaboration opportunities with Riot Games to strengthen Indonesia’s national esports ecosystem. In particular, Minister of Creative Economy, Teuku Riefky Harsya, emphasized that esports has now expanded across multiple sectors, requiring collaboration among various stakeholders.
Minister of Creative Economy, Teuku Riefky Harsya, received an audience with Riot Games representatives at Autograph Tower Thamrin Nine, Jakarta, on Thursday (14/5/2026).
“Today, games are no longer merely entertainment products, but platforms that connect culture, technology, creativity, and economic opportunities. Indonesia has a very large and dynamic gaming ecosystem. Our younger generation is actively involved not only as players, but also as creators, streamers, esports talents, event organizers, musicians, and game developers,” said the Minister during the meeting with Riot Games representatives at Autograph Tower Thamrin Nine, Jakarta, on Thursday (14/5).
The discussions on strengthening the esports ecosystem included the development of digital creative talent as well as the potential organization of regional and international esports events in Indonesia. The Minister also noted that Riot Games has established a strong connection with Indonesia’s younger generation through popular games such as VALORANT and League of Legends.
The meeting also covered the development of a tiered esports tournament ecosystem from regional to national levels, strengthening the competitiveness of Indonesian esports teams internationally, and exploring collaboration opportunities with local game developers in areas such as funding, outsourcing services, and local game publishing. In addition, the Ministry of Creative Economy encouraged the involvement of local creators in Riot Games’ various activations in Indonesia, spanning subsectors such as music, illustration, visual arts, fashion, and local intellectual property (IP).
“We see esports as having a significant economic impact across various sectors, ranging from the creative industry and event production to tourism and job creation for the younger generation.
