Jakarta, 17 June 2025 — Deputy Minister of Creative Economy, Irene Umar, received a courtesy visit from Awann Creative and the Indonesian Interior Designers Association (AIDIA), who are initiating the development of a regional creative economy hub in Semarang based on Intellectual Property (IP). This initiative marks the first step in exploring collaboration between the private sector and government to build a structured IP ecosystem at the regional level, in line with the vision of the creative economy as the new engine of growth, starting from the regions.

“Our IP potential is vast, but not all of it has a strong foundation. We want creative economy development to no longer be concentrated in big cities, but spread evenly across the regions — because that is where quality jobs and sustainable growth will emerge,” said Deputy Minister of Creative Economy Irene during the meeting held at Autograph Tower, Jakarta, on Tuesday, 17 June 2025.
Semarang is considered one of the regions with significant potential for developing a creative economy ecosystem. Through this meeting, the Ministry of Creative Economy expressed its openness to exploring possible support for strengthening the IP ecosystem in Semarang, such as facilitating IP legalization, enhancing the capacity of creative practitioners, and opening access to wider markets.
The Ministry also welcomed the establishment of creative economy offices in local governments as a step toward strengthening the institutional foundation of the creative sector. Deputy Minister of Creative Economy Irene emphasized that synergy between government, communities, and businesses such as Awann Creative and AIDIA is essential in building a robust local IP industry.
“We are here as enablers. With the right ecosystem and regulatory support, local creative talents can thrive sustainably and contribute directly to the national economy,” she added.
In response, Awann Creative CEO, Albert Dwijaya, explained that together with AIDIA, they are preparing a creative economy district in Semarang that will include collaborative spaces, creative studios, and IP incubation programs. One of the upcoming programs is the Awann Creative Week, set to run for three months starting 28 June 2025 at Awann Costa, Semarang.

The event will feature the Aidia IP Market, creative economy workshops, and a contemporary gallery showcasing IP-based products such as art toys, art posters, and immersive tech-based artworks. Both national and international IPs — including Redmiller Blood by Peter Rhian Gunawan, as well as curated local IPs from Semarang by AIDIA — will be on display.
“We want to position Semarang as a model for creative ecosystem development that is not only artistic but also delivers tangible economic impact. Support from the Ministry of Creative Economy is key to enabling this model to be replicated in other cities and to opening up quality job opportunities,” said Albert.
This initial engagement serves as an important foundation for broader and more structured collaboration. The Ministry of Creative Economy remains committed to strengthening its role as a facilitator for regional initiatives, expanding the reach of the IP ecosystem, and making the creative economy a key driver of national economic growth from the grassroots level.
Also present at the meeting were Awann Group Director Robert Dwijaya; Awann Group General Manager of Business Development, Jessyca Artha Wijaya; IP artist Peter Rhian Gunawan (Redmiller Blood); AIDIA Secretary General Adi Nugroho; and AIDIA Semarang Coordinator Firdausi Refani Kartika Utami.
