Jakarta, January 21, 2025 – Minister of Creative Economy/Head of the Creative Economy Agency, Teuku Riefky Harsya, joined forces with the Indonesian Film Board (Badan Perfilman Indonesia/BPI) and various film industry associations under its umbrella to formulate anti-piracy measures in a Focus Group Discussion (FGD) held at The Hub, Epicentrum Area, South Jakarta (21/1/2025).

Under the theme "FGD Anti-Piracy", BPI expressed its concerns regarding film piracy in Indonesia, highlighting the significant financial losses it causes not only for industry players but also for the country’s economy as a whole.
Accompanied by Deputy for Media Creativity, Agustini Rahayu, Minister of Creative Economy Riefky emphasized that the Ministry of Creative Economy is ready to take concrete actions to assist, support, and follow up on the recommendations discussed in the FGD Anti-Piracy.

“It is crucial for us to establish strong collaboration with BPI and its 65 affiliated associations to combat national film piracy with concrete measures. Today’s FGD serves as a guide for Ministry of Creative Economy to determine its next steps whether to engage with law enforcement or the Ministry of Communication and Digital Affairs (Komdigi). We are fully committed to supporting the community-driven initiatives that emerge from this discussion,” stated Minister of Creative Economy Riefky.
According to research conducted by the Indonesian Video Streaming Association (AVISI), 70% of Indonesian internet users watch domestic films illegally, resulting in the national film industry generating only IDR 28 trillion in revenue.
AVISI Chairman, Hermawan Sutanto, expressed his concerns by presenting the research findings at the FGD Anti-Piracy. The data revealed that 80% of Indonesian internet users are fully aware of the negative consequences of piracy but continue to watch pirated films.
“This is a huge challenge, which is why we sincerely appreciate the Ministry of Creative Economy and the government for organizing this FGD. It sends a strong and positive signal that the film industry is a priority for the government,” said Hermawan.

Minister of Creative Economy Riefky reaffirmed that strengthening the national film ecosystem is a priority and has been included in Indonesia’s Medium Term National Development Plan (RPJMN) for the next five years.
“In the future, we will reconvene to determine specific concrete steps that we will take together,” Minister of Creative Economy confirmed.
