Following Presidential Visit, Minister of Creative Economy and the South Korean Ambassador Meets to Implement Partnership

Jakarta, 11 June 2026 - Minister of Creative Economy/Head of the Creative Economy Agency, Teuku Riefky Harsya, received a courtesy visit from the Ambassador of the Republic of Korea to Indonesia, Yoon Soon-gu. The meeting focused on opportunities to strengthen creative economy cooperation between Indonesia and the Republic of Korea, including the establishment of a High-Level Creative Industries Cooperation Committee and the preparation of a new Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on creative economy collaboration.

Minister of Creative Economy/Head of the Creative Economy Agency, Teuku Riefky Harsya, received a courtesy visit from the Ambassador of the Republic of Korea to Indonesia, Yoon Soon-gu.

“Indonesia and the Republic of Korea share a common vision of positioning the creative economy as a new engine of economic growth. South Korea’s remarkable success through the Korean Wave, or Hallyu, serves as both an inspiration and a catalyst for broader collaboration. As our strategic partnership continues to deepen, we see significant opportunities to advance co-productions, talent exchanges, digital game development, and various technology-driven initiatives that can benefit the creative industries of both Indonesia and the Republic of Korea,” said Minister Teuku Riefky Harsya.

The meeting followed the engagement between President of the Republic of Indonesia Prabowo Subianto and President of the Republic of Korea Lee Jae Myung on March 31, 2026, which elevated bilateral relations to a Special Comprehensive Strategic Partnership. The enhanced partnership has created broader opportunities for cooperation across multiple sectors, including the creative economy.

As part of this commitment, the Ministry of Creative Economy is currently drafting a new Memorandum of Understanding that will serve as the overarching framework for creative economy cooperation between Indonesia and the Republic of Korea, while facilitating a wide range of cross-subsector collaborative initiatives in the years ahead.

The MoU will also provide the foundation for establishing a High-Level Creative Industries Cooperation Committee, which will be jointly chaired by the Minister of Creative Economy of the Republic of Indonesia and the Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism of the Republic of Korea.

“We are accelerating the preparation of this new MoU as a foundation for strengthening creative economy cooperation between Indonesia and the Republic of Korea. Through the establishment of the High-Level Creative Industries Cooperation Committee, we hope to translate emerging opportunities into concrete programs that deliver tangible benefits to creative industry stakeholders in both countries,” the Minister added.

During the meeting, Minister Teuku Riefky Harsya also invited the Government of the Republic of Korea and its creative industry stakeholders to participate in the World Conference on Creative Economy (WCCE) 2026, which will be held in Jakarta this October. As the world’s largest creative economy conference initiated by Indonesia, WCCE is expected to serve as a platform for both countries to expand networks, strengthen collaboration, and unlock new partnership opportunities across the creative economy sector.
