The dispute began when Vidio.com took legal action against several coffee shops that screened English Premier League matches without authorization. The Ministry acknowledged business owners’ concerns while also supporting the rights of licensed broadcasters.
“We emphasized a restorative approach. Violations like this should not be seen merely as acts to be punished, but as shared lessons on the importance of maintaining a fair and healthy creative ecosystem,” the Minister added.

“This case serves as an important reflection for the entire creative economy ecosystem. We hope awareness of the importance of intellectual property rights will continue to grow within society. In doing so, the creative economy can become a true driver of national economic growth, starting from the grassroots,” he concluded.

“Cafés and coffee shops will be able to host public viewing events for sports broadcasts, including the English Premier League and Indonesian League, through contractual partnerships. In other regions, such collaborations have already proven to increase revenue,” he said.
