Jakarta, October 22, 2025 – Deputy Minister of Creative Economy (Deputy Minister) Irene Umar attended the ASEAN Creative Economy Roundtable at the ASEAN Secretariat in Jakarta. The forum is part of the Global Creative Economy Council (GCEC) visit to Indonesia, serving as a platform for the exchange of ideas among ASEAN countries and international partners to strengthen cooperation in developing the creative sector.

“The creative economy is a borderless space for collaboration—not only between countries but also between ideas, industries, and generations,” said Deputy Minister Irene during the panel discussion session held on Wednesday, October 22, 2025.
The forum also promotes the implementation of the ASEAN Creative Economy Sustainable Framework (ACESF) as a shared policy guideline. Deputy Minister Irene reaffirmed Indonesia’s commitment to enhancing the competitiveness of the creative sector through cross-country and cross-sector synergy, with creativity and innovation as the new engine of growth driving future economic development.
“Through ACESF, we have a strong foundation to ensure that the growth of the creative sector in ASEAN remains equitable, adaptive, and relevant to the challenges of our time,” said Deputy Minister Irene.

Meanwhile, Marta Foresti, Founder and CEO of LAGO and member of the GCEC, highlighted the importance of expanding regional networks to address global challenges in the creative sector.
“Creativity must be at the heart of future development. Through open collaboration and inclusive policy exchange, we can build a resilient ecosystem that creates real impact for society,” said Marta.
In the same session, Summer Xia, British Council Country Director for Indonesia and Director for Southeast Asia, emphasized the vital role of the creative sector as a bridge for cross-cultural understanding among nations.

“We believe that cooperation in the creative sector can strengthen international ties and foster people-centered innovation. Through strategic partnerships, Indonesia and ASEAN countries have the potential to become pioneers of creative growth in the region,” said Summer.
The GCEC visit to Indonesia serves as a momentum to reinforce global cooperation and expand networks among stakeholders in the development of the ASEAN creative economy.
